76C

Samsung Refrigerator

Severity: Moderate

What it means

Samsung refrigerator 76C is the Autofill-water-detection code on Bespoke refrigerators with the Autofill pitcher feature.
Samsung's exact wording: 'Water is detected in the Autofill compartment.'
The sensor in the Autofill recess has picked up water where it shouldn't be — usually because the pitcher leaked, the Autofill nozzle dripped, or the pitcher was put back in damp.

Affected Models

  • Samsung Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Autofill (RF29BB, RF23BB series with the dedicated Autofill pitcher)
  • Samsung Bespoke French Door with Autofill (RF24BB, RF27BB series with Autofill)
  • Other Samsung Bespoke models with the dedicated Autofill water pitcher accessory
  • 76C does not appear on standard Samsung refrigerators without the Autofill feature
  • 76C is Bespoke-specific — older Family Hub and standard French Door fridges don't have an Autofill compartment

Common Causes

  • Autofill pitcher leaked back into the compartment
  • Autofill nozzle dripped after the last fill
  • Pitcher placed back into the compartment while still wet from washing
  • Autofill compartment seal damaged letting condensation pool
  • Water sensor in the Autofill compartment shorted (rare; service after cleaning)

How to Fix It

  1. Remove the Autofill pitcher.

Pull the pitcher straight out of its dedicated compartment.
Empty any water in the pitcher into the sink.

  2. Sponge out the compartment.

Look down into the empty Autofill compartment.
If you see any water pooled at the bottom, sponge it out with a paper towel or microfibre cloth.
Pay special attention to the water sensor recess — that's what's triggering the code.

  3. Dry the compartment fully.

Wipe the entire compartment dry, including the sides and the back wall where condensation likes to collect.
Leave the pitcher out for 15-30 minutes to let any residual moisture evaporate.

  4. Dry the pitcher and refit.

Make sure the outside of the pitcher is fully dry before putting it back.
A wet pitcher exterior will drip back into the compartment as soon as you reinstall it and 76C will return.
Refit firmly so the pitcher seats correctly under the Autofill nozzle.

  5. Schedule service if 76C returns.

If the compartment is confirmed dry, the pitcher is dry on the outside, and 76C reappears within minutes — the water sensor or its wiring has failed.
Schedule Samsung service through samsung.com/us/support — this isn't owner-serviceable on Bespoke models.

When to Call a Professional

Most 76C cases clear in a few minutes: remove the pitcher, sponge out any water, dry the compartment fully, then refit.
Only schedule Samsung service if 76C returns immediately after the compartment is confirmed dry.

Frequently Asked Questions

I just washed the pitcher and 76C appeared the moment I put it back — is that the cause?

Yes — exactly that.
Even a thin film of water on the outside of the pitcher drips down into the compartment and triggers the water sensor within seconds.
Always towel-dry the entire outside of the pitcher (especially the bottom) after washing.
Better still, let it air-dry on the dish rack for 10 minutes before putting it back.
