Error Code 22E (22C)

Samsung Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Samsung Error Code 22E (also shown as 22C) means the freezer temperature sensor has failed or is reading outside its expected range. The fridge cannot regulate freezer temperature accurately without this sensor, and cooling may become erratic.

Affected Models

  • Samsung French Door Refrigerator
  • Samsung Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Common Causes

  • Freezer temperature sensor (thermistor) failed
  • Sensor wiring harness damaged or disconnected
  • Control board fault producing a false reading

How to Fix It

  1. Perform a power reset.

Unplug the fridge for 5 minutes and plug it back in. If Error 22E was caused by a temporary voltage spike or sensor glitch, a power reset may clear it. Monitor for recurrence over the next 12 hours.

  2. Check freezer temperature.

After the reset, confirm the freezer is reaching and holding its set temperature (-18°C / 0°F). If the freezer is not cold enough or fluctuates wildly, the sensor is providing bad data to the control board.

  3. Access and inspect the freezer sensor.

The freezer temperature sensor sits on or near the evaporator coils behind the freezer's rear interior panel. Remove the panel and trace the sensor wiring to the connector. Check for broken or burned wires.

  4. Test with a multimeter.

Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance. At -18°C a healthy Samsung freezer thermistor typically reads around 30,000–50,000 ohms. At room temperature (~20°C) it reads around 5,000–6,000 ohms. A zero or infinite reading indicates failure.

  5. Replace the sensor.

Order a replacement temperature sensor for your specific Samsung model number. Clip or secure the new sensor to the same location on the evaporator coils. Reassemble and power on — Error 22E should clear.

When to Call a Professional

Replacing the freezer sensor requires removing the interior rear panel in the freezer. If you are not comfortable with disassembly, contact a Samsung-certified service technician.
