Error 102
Ecovacs Robot Vacuum
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Error 102 is the side brush motor protection — the brush motor stalled, usually because hair has wrapped around the base of the brush.
Pop the side brush off, clean the spindle, and reinstall.
Two minutes of work and Error 102 clears.
If it returns within a day, the brush itself is bent and needs replacement.
Affected Models
- Deebot Ozmo T8
- Deebot N8
- Deebot N10
- Deebot X1 Omni
- Deebot T20
Common Causes
- Hair wrapped around the side brush base (most common)
- Carpet thread tangled in the spindle
- Side brush bent from collisions
- Brush not snapped fully onto the spindle
- Side brush motor failed (rare)
How to Fix It
-
Flip the robot.
Find the small spinning brush at the corner of the robot's underside.
Most Deebots have one, some have two (one on each side).
The brush has three or five soft plastic prongs. -
Pull or unscrew the brush off.
Newer Deebots use a snap-on brush — pull straight up.
Older ones use a Phillips screw.
Once off, set it aside and look at the metal spindle that was driving it. -
Clean hair off the spindle.
Hair almost always wraps around the spindle right at the base, where it meets the robot body.
Cut it free with small scissors or peel it off with tweezers.
The spindle should rotate freely under light finger pressure when clean. -
Inspect the brush prongs.
If the prongs are splayed out flat, the brush isn't sweeping anymore.
Try bending them back upright with a hairdryer (heat them and they'll re-curl).
If they're broken or split, replace the brush — they're a few dollars in packs of two. -
Snap the brush back on.
Press the brush firmly onto the spindle until it clicks (or screws back in).
It should not wobble.
A loose brush will cause Error 102 again within minutes.
Set the robot down and press Clean.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should the side brush be cleaned?
If you have a pet or long hair, every 1–2 weeks.
Without those, every 4–6 weeks.
The side brush sees the worst tangles because it sweeps right along the floor where hair settles.
A quick clean each time you empty the dust bin is good practice.
Can I run without the side brush?
Yes — temporarily.
The robot will still vacuum the center of the floor without it.
What you'll lose is the cleaning along walls and corners.
Don't run without it for more than a few days; the side brush is what makes the robot more effective than a standard vacuum near the edges.
