Error 11
Roborock Robot Vacuum
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Error 11 means the robot's magnetic sensor has detected a magnet stronger than it expects.
Almost always this is a Roborock magnetic boundary strip placed too close to where the robot starts, or a magnetic accessory accidentally left on the floor.
Move the robot a metre away from the dock and any magnetic items, then restart.
Error 11 usually clears immediately.
Affected Models
- Roborock S7
- Roborock S8
- Roborock Q7 Max
- Roborock S5 Max
- Roborock S6 MaxV
Common Causes
- Magnetic boundary strip placed too close to dock or robot start position (most common)
- Other magnet on the floor — fridge magnet, magnetic toy, etc.
- Speaker or large electronic device with strong magnet near the floor
- Robot started a cleaning cycle while sitting on top of a strip
- Magnetic sensor on the robot itself failed (rare)
How to Fix It
-
Move the robot away from any magnetic strips.
Pick up the Roborock and place it about a metre away from any boundary strips or magnetic objects.
If you're using virtual walls or magnetic strips for no-go zones, make sure they aren't right next to the dock.
Error 11 clears the moment the sensor isn't picking up a strong field. -
Check the floor near the robot.
Look for fridge magnets, magnetic kids' toys, or any electronics with large magnets (subwoofers, motors).
Even something a foot or two away can trigger Error 11 if the magnet is strong enough.
Move whatever you find. -
Restart cleaning.
Press Clean on the robot or in the app.
If Error 11 doesn't return, the cause was external and you've fixed it.
If it returns immediately even in a clean spot, the sensor itself is misreading. -
Reposition magnetic boundary strips.
If you're using strips deliberately, place them at least a metre from the dock and from any path the robot uses for navigation calibration.
Strips placed near doorways the robot uses heavily can trigger spurious Error 11 over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Roborock use magnetic sensors?
The magnetic sensor is part of the boundary system that lets you mark areas the robot should avoid using physical magnetic strips.
Newer Roborocks also use the magnetic sensor for compass-style heading verification — they expect a weak background field, not a strong nearby magnet.
Can I disable the magnetic sensor?
Not directly.
If you don't use magnetic boundary strips, you can usually avoid Error 11 by keeping fridge magnets and similar items off the floor.
If the robot keeps throwing Error 11 in a clean room with no obvious magnets, contact Roborock support — the sensor itself may need replacing.
