Error 13
Roborock Robot Vacuum
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Roborock Error 13 means the robot completed its clean (or ran low on battery) and could not locate the charging dock to return home. A moved dock, blocked dock, or a mapping problem is almost always the cause. The robot will stop and wait — carry it back to the dock manually to charge.
Affected Models
- Roborock S5
- Roborock S6 MaxV
- Roborock S7
- Roborock Q5 Max
- Roborock E4
- Roborock S8
Common Causes
- Dock was moved from its original position after the room map was created
- Dock is obstructed — furniture or an object placed in front of the dock's infrared signal path
- Room map has become corrupted or inaccurate — robot's navigation is off
- Dock was placed in a corner or alcove that is difficult for the robot to approach from the correct angle
- Dock power light is off — dock has lost power and its homing signal is not broadcasting
How to Fix It
-
Carry the robot back to the dock manually and place it on the charging contacts. Confirm the dock LED shows it is charging.
The robot cannot charge wirelessly — it must make physical contact with the dock's metal charging pins. Press it down gently until the charging indicator activates.
-
Check the dock has not been moved since the map was last created. The dock must stay in the same position it was in when the map was built.
Even moving the dock a few centimetres from its original position can confuse the robot's homing navigation.
-
Ensure there is at least 50cm of clear space in front of the dock and 30cm on each side. Furniture too close to the dock prevents the robot from lining up correctly on its approach.
The robot approaches the dock in a straight line from some distance away. Any obstacle in that approach path will cause it to abort and eventually give Error 13.
-
Check the dock is plugged in and its LED is on. A dock with no power broadcasts no homing signal.
Loose power adapters are a surprisingly common cause — especially if the dock is against a wall where the adapter can be nudged.
-
If the dock is correctly placed and powered, delete the existing room map in the Roborock app and let the robot create a new one. A fresh map re-establishes the dock's location accurately.
Go to the app → Settings → Map Management → Delete Map. Run a full clean to rebuild the map. The robot will re-learn the dock position during this run.
When to Call a Professional
Error 13 is almost always a placement or mapping issue, not a hardware fault. If the robot consistently cannot find a correctly positioned, unobstructed dock, the robot's homing sensor may need servicing. Contact Roborock support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move the Roborock dock to a different room?
Yes, but you must delete the existing map and let the robot remap after moving the dock. The dock's position is embedded in the map — if the dock moves without a remap, Error 13 will appear every time the robot tries to go home.
Roborock is fully charged but still showing Error 13 from the last run — is this a problem?
No. Once the robot is back on the dock and charging, the error is resolved. It will not affect future cleaning runs. The error is a record of what happened at the end of the last session, not an ongoing fault.
