Error 002

Husqvarna Robotic Lawn Mower

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Husqvarna Automower Error 002 means the mower has lost the boundary wire signal and cannot determine its working area. This stops the mower from operating to prevent it from leaving the designated zone. The most common cause is a break in the perimeter boundary wire — cut by a garden tool, chewed by an animal, or corroded at a connector.

Affected Models

  • Husqvarna Automower 115H
  • Husqvarna Automower 315
  • Husqvarna Automower 430X
  • Husqvarna Automower 450X
  • Husqvarna Automower 310 Mark II

Common Causes

  • The boundary wire was cut by a lawnmower, spade, or other garden tool
  • An animal (dog, rodent) has chewed through the wire
  • A wire connector or splice junction has corroded or pulled apart
  • The wire has been pinched under a stone or garden edging, causing a break over time
  • The charging station signal transmitter has a fault

How to Fix It

  1. Check the charging station connections first

Inspect where the boundary wire connects to the rear terminals of the charging station. Ensure both wire ends are firmly clamped and the insulation is not frayed at the terminals. A loose terminal connection can cause Error 002 without any wire break in the garden.

  2. Walk the perimeter wire and look for visible damage

Walk the entire boundary wire path and visually inspect for cuts, dig marks, or areas where the wire has been disturbed. Pay extra attention near mowing corridors, garden beds, and any areas that have been recently worked. A cut wire will be obvious once found.

  3. Use the Automower's diagnostic signal mode to locate the break

Some Automower models can transmit a diagnostic signal through the wire to help locate breaks — consult your model's manual for the signal test mode. A boundary wire detector tool (available from Husqvarna dealers or Amazon) can also trace the wire and identify loss of signal at the break point.

  4. Repair the wire break with a waterproof connector

Once you find the break, use a Husqvarna-approved waterproof wire connector (or a gel-filled splice connector designed for outdoor low-voltage wire). Simply twist the wire together and tape it is not reliable outdoors — moisture penetration will cause the connection to fail again within weeks.

  5. Test by running the mower after the repair

After repairing the wire, place the mower in the charging station and run a manual start. If Error 002 has cleared, the mower should navigate normally. If the error persists, there may be a second break in the wire — continue inspecting the full perimeter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use any wire to repair a Husqvarna boundary wire?

Husqvarna recommends using 18–20 AWG boundary wire (the same grade as the original installation). Standard speaker wire or telephone wire of the same gauge also works for repairs. Use only outdoor-rated or direct-burial wire for underground sections, as standard wire will corrode and break within a season.

Error 002 vs Error 001 on Husqvarna Automower — what is the difference?

Error 001 means no loop signal detected at all, typically from the charging station not transmitting. Error 002 means the loop signal is present but interrupted somewhere along the boundary wire — indicating a wire break rather than a station issue. Start by checking the station for Error 001; inspect the wire perimeter for Error 002.
