Error 022

Husqvarna Robotic Lawn Mower

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Husqvarna Automower Error 022 means the mower has determined it is stuck — it drove its wheels but was unable to move. This happens when the mower is trapped in a rut, caught on a tree root or garden edging, buried in thick wet grass, or stuck in mud. Physically free the mower, clear the obstacle, and restart manually.

Affected Models

  • Husqvarna Automower 115H
  • Husqvarna Automower 315
  • Husqvarna Automower 430X
  • Husqvarna Automower 450X
  • Husqvarna Automower 310 Mark II

Common Causes

  • The mower drove into a rut, ditch, or depression in the lawn and cannot reverse out
  • A tree root, garden edging, or ground-level obstacle is pinning the mower's chassis
  • Soft, muddy ground has caused the wheels to sink and spin without traction
  • Tall, thick grass is packing into the cutting deck and preventing wheel traction
  • The mower is caught against a wall, step, or permanent obstacle the boundary wire does not protect

How to Fix It

  1. Press STOP on the mower's keypad to stop the wheels and blade

Approach the mower and press the STOP button to immediately cease all motor activity. This prevents the wheels from digging deeper into mud or grass while you assess the situation. Enter your PIN to access the mower safely.

  2. Lift the mower out of the stuck position

Pick up the mower and inspect the underside. Clear any packed grass or mud from the cutting deck and wheel wells before setting it back down on firm ground. Look at where it was stuck and identify what trapped it.

  3. Modify the garden to prevent recurrence

If the mower got stuck in a recurring location — a dip, a soft patch, or near a tree root — address the root cause. Fill ruts or depressions with topsoil. Install a guide wire or adjust the boundary wire to exclude soft or problematic areas. Raise the mowing height to reduce load in heavy grass.

  4. Restart from the charging station

Return the mower to the charging station and start a new mowing session. The mower will re-enter the mowing area and navigate differently on each session. One stuck event does not require a complete zone reprogram — the mower's randomised navigation will typically avoid the same spot.

  5. Review the mowing schedule if Error 022 recurs frequently

Frequent Error 022 in wet conditions suggests the mowing schedule should be adjusted. Avoid scheduling mowing sessions immediately after heavy rain. Use the mower's rain sensor (if equipped) to automatically suspend mowing when the lawn is wet. In consistently soft areas, increase mowing frequency to keep grass shorter and drier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Error 022 damage the Husqvarna Automower?

A stuck event is not harmful to the mower if it is freed promptly. The mower's protection circuits stop the wheels from over-spinning when stuck. However, repeatedly getting stuck in the same wet location with wheels spinning can eventually wear down the wheel drive gears. Fix the underlying terrain issue to prevent repeat incidents.

Can I permanently exclude a muddy or problematic area from my Automower's zone?

Yes — reroute or add boundary wire to create a no-go zone around the problem area, or use the island wire function on supported models to mark interior exclusion zones. Husqvarna's EPOS and GPS-based models can define exclusion zones digitally via the Automower Connect app.
