Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
A Zone Tamper alert on your Risco alarm means the cover of one of your sensors has been opened, removed, or damaged. Every Risco sensor has a built-in tamper switch that sends an alert the moment the sensor cover is disturbed.

Common Causes
- Sensor cover was opened for battery replacement and not fully re-closed
- Sensor has fallen off the wall and the cover has separated
- An intruder has attempted to remove or disable the sensor
- Tamper spring inside the sensor has shifted or worn out
How to Fix It

Check the keypad for the zone number
The Risco keypad will identify which zone has the tamper condition. Note the zone name or number.

Inspect the sensor physically
Go to the sensor on that zone. Check whether the cover is properly closed, whether the sensor is still mounted on the wall, and whether it shows any signs of physical damage.

Press the cover firmly closed
If the cover is slightly ajar, press it firmly until it clicks into position. Even a small gap keeps the tamper switch open.

Acknowledge on the keypad
Once the sensor cover is properly closed, enter your user code and press Disarm/Off on the keypad to clear the tamper alert.

Check for signs of intrusion attempt
If the sensor shows scratch marks, missing screws, or damage that you did not cause, treat this as a potential security incident and contact your alarm company.

Risco Zone Tamper Alert
The Zone Tamper condition tells you that a sensor’s physical cover has been opened or disturbed. Risco sensors use a tamper switch — a spring-loaded button that presses against the inside of the cover. The moment the cover shifts, the button is released and a tamper signal goes to the panel.
Most Likely Cause: Battery Change
If you or someone in your household recently changed a sensor battery, an improperly re-seated cover is the most common reason for a tamper alert. Always press the cover firmly until you feel it click.
Security Concern
If you did not open any sensors and a tamper condition appears, treat it seriously. This could indicate an attempt to physically interfere with your alarm. Check the sensor for signs of tampering and notify your alarm monitoring company.

Yes — tamper conditions can be programmed to trigger an immediate alarm (24-hour zone) or to generate a trouble condition only. The behaviour depends on how your installer set up the system.
I changed a sensor battery and now have a tamper. How do I clear it?
Close the sensor cover firmly until it clicks. Then enter your PIN and press Disarm on the keypad. The tamper should clear within a few seconds of the cover being properly closed.
