Authentication Error 3

Roku Streaming Device

Severity: Moderate

What it means

Authentication Error 3 means a streaming channel could not verify your subscription.
The channel cannot confirm that you have an active subscription with the content provider.
Sign out of the channel and sign back in.

Affected Models

  • Roku Streaming Stick 4K
  • Roku Express
  • Roku Ultra
  • Roku TV
  • Roku Streambar

Common Causes

  • Channel subscription expired or payment failed
  • Authentication token expired — need to re-sign-in
  • Content provider's authentication server is down
  • Account linked to a different device or region

How to Fix It

  1. Sign out of the channel and sign back in.

Open the channel, go to its Settings or Account section, sign out, then sign in again.
    This refreshes the authentication token.

  2. Check that your subscription is active.

Log in to the streaming service's website to verify your subscription.
If payment failed, update your payment method.

  3. Remove the channel and re-add it.

Highlight the channel on the Home screen, press * on the remote, select Remove channel.
Then go to the Channel Store and add it again.

  4. Restart the Roku.

Settings > System > System restart.
A restart clears cached authentication data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mean my subscription is cancelled?

Not necessarily.
Authentication errors can happen even with active subscriptions.
Verify your subscription status on the provider's website first.

Why does this happen with only one channel?

Each streaming channel manages its own authentication independently.
One channel having an error does not affect others.
