Scene Not Triggering
TP-Link Kasa Smart Plug
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Kasa scenes that don't fire usually fail because the schedule is in the wrong time zone, the plug went offline, or scenes are tied to a specific 'home' that the app forgot.
Check the time zone in the Kasa app, confirm all plugs in the scene show online, and rebuild the scene from scratch if needed.
Most schedule failures clear with a fresh time-zone setting.

- TP-Link Kasa KP125

- TP-Link Kasa KP200
Common Causes
- Time zone not set correctly in Kasa app
- One plug in the scene offline
- Scene tied to old account or home that was deleted
- App needs update
- WiFi router rebooted at scheduled time and plug missed it
How to Fix It
-
Check the time zone.
Kasa app → Me (bottom right) → Settings → Time Zone.
Confirm the displayed time zone matches your location.
Daylight saving changes sometimes don't apply if time zone was set as a fixed offset rather than 'America/New York' style.
Pick the named city zone. -
Check each plug in the scene.
Open the scene, tap to view the devices it controls.
Each one must show 'Online'.
If any show offline, fix that plug first — schedules silently skip offline plugs. -
Update the Kasa app.
App store → Kasa → Update if available.
Old app versions had several scheduling bugs that newer versions fixed.
Restart the app after updating. -
Rebuild the scene.
Sometimes scenes carry corrupt state from old accounts or earlier app versions.
Delete the failing scene.
Recreate it with the same plugs and same schedule.
This often fixes 'scene won't trigger' for good. -
Test on a near time.
Set a new schedule for 2 minutes from now.
Watch.
If it triggers, your time zone and plug status are correct.
If not, check time zone first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I use Kasa scenes or Alexa Routines?
Kasa scenes are local to the plug — they fire even when the internet is out (after schedule was downloaded).
Alexa Routines need internet to fire.
For reliability, Kasa native scenes win.
For complex multi-vendor automations, Alexa or Home Assistant are more flexible.
