Keeps Restarting

Hisense Smart TV

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

A Hisense TV stuck in a restart loop usually has corrupted firmware from an interrupted update or is overheating. Unplugging the TV for 60 seconds often breaks the loop. If it continues, a factory reset from the TV's recovery mode reinstalls clean firmware and stops the rebooting.

Affected Models

  • Hisense U8K
  • Hisense U7K
  • Hisense U6K
  • Hisense A6K
  • Hisense R6 Series
  • Hisense Roku TV

Common Causes

  • A firmware update was interrupted, leaving corrupted boot data
  • The TV is overheating inside a cabinet and the thermal protection circuit is forcing shutdowns
  • A third-party app installed on VIDAA OS is crashing the system
  • The auto-update feature downloaded a buggy firmware version
  • A failing capacitor on the main board is causing power instability

How to Fix It

  1. Unplug the TV from the wall for 60 seconds. Plug back in and allow one full boot cycle.

This breaks most transient restart loops. Watch whether the TV completes a full boot or reboots again.

  2. Ensure the TV is not overheating — verify at least 10 cm clearance around all sides, especially the top.

A TV restarting after 20 to 40 minutes of use is a classic thermal protection pattern.

  3. If the TV reaches the home screen briefly before rebooting, go to Settings → Support → System Update immediately to install any pending firmware.

A partial firmware install can cause a loop that only a completed update or factory reset resolves.

  4. Perform a factory reset: Settings → System → Advanced System Settings → Factory Reset → Reset to Factory Default.

On VIDAA OS the exact path may vary by model — look for 'Reset TV' or 'Factory Reset' under System settings.

  5. If the TV cannot stay on long enough to reach settings, use the hardware reset: with the TV unplugged, press and hold the physical Reset button (pinhole on the back) while plugging the TV in. Hold for 20 seconds.

This forces recovery mode and initiates a factory reset without needing to navigate menus.

When to Call a Professional

If a factory reset does not stop the restart loop and no overheating is evident, the main board may have a hardware fault. Contact Hisense support — restart loops caused by a failed firmware update are sometimes covered under warranty even on out-of-warranty TVs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hisense TV started restarting right after an automatic update — is that the cause?

Yes — an auto-update that was interrupted or contained a bug is the most common cause of restart loops. A factory reset clears the corrupted firmware and lets the TV start fresh. Report the issue to Hisense support to alert them to the problematic update.

The TV reboots only when I open a specific app — is it a hardware problem?

No — app-triggered reboots are a software issue with that specific app. Uninstall and reinstall the app, or clear its cache from Settings → Apps → [App] → Clear Cache. If the reboots stop, the app was the cause.

After a factory reset will I lose everything?

A factory reset erases all accounts, apps, and settings stored locally. Signing back into your streaming accounts restores your subscriptions. On VIDAA OS there is no cloud backup of settings — note your preferred settings before resetting if you can.
