Bluetooth Not Working

LG Smart TV

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Put your Bluetooth device in pairing mode and go to Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Bluetooth to scan for it. If the device does not appear, restart both the TV and the Bluetooth device, then try pairing again. LG TVs support a limited number of paired devices — remove unused ones at Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Bluetooth Device List.

Affected Models

  • LG OLED C-series
  • LG QNED series
  • LG NanoCell series
  • LG UHD series (2020 and newer)
  • LG webOS 6 / 7 / 22 / 23 / 24

Common Causes

  • Bluetooth device not in pairing mode
  • Too many saved Bluetooth devices in the TV pairing list
  • Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz interference with the Bluetooth frequency
  • webOS Bluetooth service crash requiring a reboot
  • Incompatible Bluetooth profile (LG TVs support A2DP audio only)

How to Fix It

  1. Put the device in pairing mode

Most headphones and speakers require a long press on the power or Bluetooth button to enter pairing mode. The device should not already be connected to another source.

  2. Scan for devices on the TV

Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Bluetooth → select your device from the list. If nothing appears, press the scan/refresh button if available, or restart the TV and try again.

  3. Clear the Bluetooth device list

Settings → Sound → Sound Out → Bluetooth Device List → delete unused or old pairings. LG TVs can become unresponsive when the pairing list is full.

  4. Restart the TV

Hold the power button on the remote for 5 seconds to restart webOS. The Bluetooth service sometimes crashes silently and only a restart restores it.

  5. Reduce Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz interference

Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi share the same frequency band. If possible, connect the TV to 5 GHz Wi-Fi to reduce interference with Bluetooth audio.

When to Call a Professional

LG TV Bluetooth hardware failure is rare. If Bluetooth scanning shows no devices and the Magic Remote also loses Bluetooth connection, the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi combo chip may have failed — contact LG support.

Frequently Asked Questions

LG TV Bluetooth headphones keep disconnecting — how to fix?

Keep the headphones within 3 metres of the TV and remove any obstacles. Also try switching the TV's Wi-Fi to the 5 GHz band to reduce 2.4 GHz interference with the Bluetooth signal.

LG TV won't find my Bluetooth speaker — why?

The speaker must be in active pairing mode, not just powered on. Also check that the speaker is not already connected to a phone or another device — Bluetooth devices can only connect to one source at a time.

Can I connect Bluetooth headphones to an LG TV from 2018?

LG added Bluetooth audio output (A2DP) to most Smart TV models from 2018 onward. Go to Settings → Sound → Sound Out — if Bluetooth is listed as an option, your model supports it.
