105

LG Smart TV

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 105 means the TV got onto the network but can't translate website names into addresses.
That's a DNS problem — your router's DNS service is slow, broken, or blocked.
Set the TV's DNS to 8.8.8.8 manually and the error usually clears within seconds.
This is one of the easiest LG error codes to fix.

Affected Models

  • LG OLED C3
  • LG OLED G3
  • LG NanoCell NANO75
  • LG QNED QNED80
  • LG webOS 6.0+ smart TV

Common Causes

  • Router DNS unresponsive or returning errors (most common)
  • ISP DNS having an outage in your area
  • Pi-hole or AdGuard filtering the TV's lookups too aggressively
  • Router firewall blocking outbound DNS traffic
  • TV's stored DNS settings corrupted after a firmware update

How to Fix It

  1. Set manual DNS to 8.8.8.8.

    Settings > Network > Wi-Fi > select your network > Advanced.
Change DNS from 'Set automatically' to 'Set manually'.
Enter 8.8.8.8 as the DNS address.
This switches you to Google's public DNS and bypasses your router's DNS entirely.
Most error 105 cases clear immediately.

  2. Try Cloudflare's DNS as alternative.

    If 8.8.8.8 doesn't work, try 1.1.1.1 instead.
That's Cloudflare's public DNS — also free, also reliable, sometimes faster than Google's.
Either one will work for streaming TV — neither logs your watching habits.

  3. Check Pi-hole or AdGuard if you run one.

Network-wide ad blockers like Pi-hole sometimes block legitimate streaming services.
Look at the query log on your Pi-hole and search for entries from the TV's IP.
If you see blocked queries to LG or streaming domains, whitelist them.

  4. Restart the router.

If manual DNS doesn't help, restart the router.
Sometimes the router's whole network stack needs a refresh — DNS issues are often a symptom of a wider router glitch.

  5. Check ISP DNS status.

If multiple devices on your network can't browse and changing DNS doesn't help, your ISP may have an outage.
Check downdetector.com or your ISP's status page.
This is rare but happens — usually fixed within an hour or two on the ISP side.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DNS in plain English?

DNS is the phonebook of the internet.
When you type 'lg.com', your TV asks DNS 'what's the actual address of lg.com?' and DNS replies with a number like 23.45.67.89.
Error 105 means the phonebook isn't answering.
Switching to 8.8.8.8 means using Google's phonebook instead of your router's.

Will manual DNS slow down my TV?

No — usually faster.
Google and Cloudflare DNS servers are massive, fast, and globally distributed.
Your router's DNS is a small forwarder that often relies on slower ISP DNS upstream.
Manual DNS often makes streaming start faster, not slower.
