2200

Sony Smart TV

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 2200 means the TV thinks there's no network — Wi-Fi disconnected, Ethernet unplugged, or radio module not responding.
Check the cable or Wi-Fi password first.
Restart the TV.
If it persists, the Wi-Fi module may need a power-cycle by unplugging the TV for 5 minutes.

Affected Models

  • Sony Bravia A95L OLED
  • Sony Bravia X95L Mini LED
  • Sony Bravia X90L
  • Sony Bravia A80L
  • Sony Google TV (current generation)

Common Causes

  • Wi-Fi password recently changed (TV has the old one stored)
  • Wi-Fi network 5GHz-only on a TV that needs 2.4GHz
  • Ethernet cable disconnected or faulty
  • Internal Wi-Fi module not initialising on boot
  • Router off or out of range

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm the network is up.

Check that your phone or laptop is on Wi-Fi normally.
If they aren't, the issue is the router, not the TV.
Restart the router (unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in).

  2. Check the Wi-Fi password is current.

Settings > Network > Network Setup > Wireless Setup.
Forget your network and re-enter it from scratch.
If you've recently changed the Wi-Fi password, the TV is still trying the old one — that surfaces as error 2200.

  3. Try Ethernet if you have a cable.

Plug an Ethernet cable from your router to the TV's Ethernet port.
If the network works on Ethernet but not Wi-Fi, the TV's wireless module is the issue — not the network.

  4. Cold-restart the TV with a long unplug.

Unplug the TV for 5 full minutes.
This is unusual — most cold restarts are 60 seconds, but the Wi-Fi module specifically benefits from a longer power-off.
Plug back in and try the network again.

  5. Update Sony firmware via USB if needed.

Some early Sony Bravia models had Wi-Fi module bugs that were fixed in firmware updates.
If your TV is older and 2200 keeps coming back, download the latest firmware from sony.com/support and update via USB.
The fix may have shipped years ago and never installed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Sony 2200 prevent regular TV use?

No.
Cable channels, HDMI inputs, and basic TV functions all work without the network.
You only lose smart features — streaming apps, Google TV recommendations, voice search.
If you don't use those, 2200 is essentially harmless.

Is Ethernet always more reliable than Wi-Fi?

For TVs, yes.
Wi-Fi works fine but has more variables — signal strength, interference, router quality, distance.
Ethernet just works.
If you can run a cable from your router, your streaming experience improves noticeably even when Wi-Fi was 'fine'.
