Not Connected to the Internet
TCL Roku TV
Severity: ModerateWhat it means
'Not connected to the Internet' (or 'Roku is not connected to the Internet — error code 009') on a TCL Roku TV means the TV either can't reach your Wi-Fi at all, or it's connected to the router but the internet beyond it is down.
The usual causes are a weak Wi-Fi signal where the TV sits, a router that needs a reboot, a Wi-Fi password the TV doesn't know yet because it changed, or a real outage with your provider.
Streaming apps stop working until it's back; antenna and HDMI inputs still play.
Affected Models
- TCL 3-Series Roku TV (S3xx)
- TCL 4-Series Roku TV (S4xx)
- TCL 5-Series Roku TV (S5xx)
- TCL 6-Series Roku TV (R6xx, R7xx)
- Older TCL Roku TVs from 2016 onward
Common Causes
- Weak Wi-Fi signal where the TV is — far from the router, walls in the way, or a cabinet blocking it
- Router needs a reboot, or the internet itself is down
- Wi-Fi password or network name changed — the TV still has the old details
- Router set up in a way the TV struggles with (5 GHz-only on an older model, separate guest network)
- DNS problem on the router or with the provider
- Too many devices on the network, or the router running out of IP addresses
- TV's network settings glitched and need to be cleared and re-entered
How to Fix It
-
Test the internet on another device.
Open something on a phone or laptop using the same Wi-Fi.
If nothing works, the problem is the router or your provider — reboot the router and check with your ISP.
If everything else has internet and only the TV doesn't, keep going. -
Reboot the router, then the TV.
Unplug the router for 30 seconds, plug it back in, wait two or three minutes for it to come up fully.
Then unplug the TV from the wall for one minute and plug it back in.
Try the connection again from Settings > Network > Set up connection.
This clears a surprising number of dropped connections. -
Reconnect to Wi-Fi with the current password.
Go to Settings > Network > Set up connection > Wireless and choose your network.
Type the password carefully — it's case-sensitive, and the on-screen keyboard may auto-capitalise the first letter.
If you recently changed the router's password or name, the TV won't reconnect by itself until you do this. -
Move closer or run an Ethernet cable.
In Settings > Network > About, check the signal strength.
If it's weak, move the router closer, add a mesh node or extender near the TV, or — best of all — plug an Ethernet cable from the router into the TV's LAN port.
Big metal furniture and other electronics next to the TV can also kill Wi-Fi. -
Try a 2.4 GHz-only network on older sets.
Older TCL Roku TVs can't see 5 GHz Wi-Fi at all.
If your router broadcasts one combined network name for both bands, split them temporarily or move the TV to the 2.4 GHz network just for the test.
Many 'TV won't see Wi-Fi' problems on older models are this. -
Factory reset network, or the whole TV, as a last resort.
If nothing connects, go to Settings > System > Advanced system settings > Network connection reset and re-set everything up.
If that still fails, a full factory reset (Settings > System > Advanced > Factory reset) and a fresh setup usually fixes it.
If a freshly-reset TV next to a working router that other devices use fine still won't connect, contact TCL or Roku support.
Frequently Asked Questions
My TCL Roku TV connects to Wi-Fi but apps still say no internet — why?
The TV reached the router but not the wider internet.
The usual cause is either an internet outage, a DNS problem at the provider, or a router handing out a bad address.
Reboot the router first.
If the home screen connects fine but only one app fails, that app is the problem — sign out and back in.
If every app says no internet, the issue is the router or the provider, not the TV — even though it shows Wi-Fi connected.
