Storage Almost Full
TCL Roku TV
Severity: MinorWhat it means
'Storage almost full' on a TCL Roku TV means the TV's small internal flash storage is nearly out of room.
Roku channels live in that storage, and on cheaper TCL Roku models there isn't a lot to begin with — a couple of gigabytes total.
You don't lose anything by removing channels you rarely use; Roku keeps your account-level list and you can reinstall any of them in seconds.
Apps that won't update, slow home-screen loads, and 'There was a problem' errors are all common knock-on effects.
Affected Models
- TCL 3-Series Roku TV (S3xx — most limited storage)
- TCL 4-Series Roku TV (S4xx)
- Older budget TCL Roku models from 2016–2020
- Less common on TCL 5-Series and 6-Series models, which have more onboard storage
Common Causes
- Too many channels installed, especially large streaming apps
- Channel updates accumulating without enough free space to install
- Streaming app caches grown over time
- Recent firmware update used most of the remaining space
- Cheaper TCL Roku model with very small built-in storage
How to Fix It
-
See what's eating the storage.
Go to Settings > System > Storage (or Storage > Internal storage on older versions).
You'll see total and free space, plus a list of channels sorted by size.
That's the list to attack. -
Remove channels you don't use.
Back on the home screen, highlight a channel you don't use, press the * (Options) button, choose Remove channel, and confirm.
You're not losing your account, your watchlist, or any saved progress — that lives in your streaming service account.
You can reinstall any removed channel from the Channel Store in seconds when you actually want it. -
Restart the TV after removing several channels.
After clearing out five or ten channels you don't use, restart the TV (Settings > System > Power > System restart, or unplug for a minute and plug back in).
This lets the system reclaim space that the removed channels were still holding onto. -
Don't pin too many channels to the home screen.
Each Roku channel is its own app with its own cache.
Keeping the home screen to the few services you actually watch means less to update, less to cache, and more free room.
If you ever want a service back, you can reinstall it in seconds — there's no penalty for trimming. -
Avoid factory resets as a 'cleanup'.
A factory reset doesn't add storage — your TV has the same flash chip after.
It just wipes your settings and forces you to set everything up again.
Only use a factory reset if storage and behaviour problems are severe and removing channels didn't help.
If the TV is still showing 'Storage almost full' with only a handful of channels installed, contact TCL — that's not normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my watchlist or saved progress if I remove a channel from my TCL Roku TV?
No.
Your watchlist, viewing progress, and account live in the streaming service itself — Netflix, Disney+, Prime, and so on keep that data on their servers tied to your account, not on the TV.
When you reinstall the channel and sign back in, your watchlist and where you stopped watching show up exactly as you left them.
The only thing on the TV is the app code and a small cache, which is why removing channels is the right way to free space.
