IQ Gateway / Envoy Blinking Red Light
Enphase Microinverter
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Enphase IQ Gateway blinking red means it has lost communication with Enphase Enlighten servers — usually due to a Wi-Fi or internet outage. Check your home internet first, then confirm the gateway is connected to your router in the Enlighten app.
Affected Models
- Enphase IQ Gateway
- Enphase IQ Combiner 4C
- Enphase Envoy-S Metered
- Enphase Envoy-S Standard
- All Enphase gateway devices
Common Causes
- Home internet outage — gateway cannot reach Enphase cloud servers
- Wi-Fi password changed — gateway still trying to connect with old credentials
- Gateway lost its network connection after a router reboot or Wi-Fi channel change
- Ethernet cable disconnected if the gateway is wired rather than Wi-Fi
- Enphase Enlighten server maintenance — rare, but cloud-side outages cause red status
How to Fix It
-
Check your home internet connection.
Open a browser or app on any home device to confirm the internet is working. If the internet is down, the Enphase gateway will show red — this is normal and will resolve when internet is restored. The solar system continues to produce power normally even when the gateway is red — only cloud reporting is affected.
-
Confirm the gateway is on your Wi-Fi network.
Open the Enphase Enlighten app and navigate to your system → Devices → Gateway. If it shows Disconnected or last reported more than 24 hours ago, the gateway has lost its network connection. If your Wi-Fi password has changed recently, the gateway needs to be re-paired to the new network using the Installer Toolkit app.
-
Restart the gateway.
Locate the power button or power supply on the IQ Gateway. Unplug the gateway from power, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. The gateway will take 3–5 minutes to restart and re-establish its connection to Enlighten — the LED should turn green during this time.
-
Check the Ethernet cable if wired.
If your gateway is connected via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi, check that the Ethernet cable is firmly seated at both the gateway and the router. Try a different Ethernet cable or port on the router. Also confirm the router's internet light is green — a router that is on but has no internet will cause the gateway to show red.
-
Check the Enphase status page.
Go to enphase.com/en-us/support and check for any posted service outages. Enphase Enlighten server maintenance occasionally causes widespread red gateway LEDs that resolve on their own. If other Enphase users are reporting the same issue simultaneously, wait for Enphase to restore the service.
When to Call a Professional
If the gateway shows red after confirming internet and Wi-Fi are working and the device has been restarted, contact Enphase support — the gateway may need to be re-provisioned or replaced.
