Microinverter Not Reporting

Enphase Microinverter

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

An Enphase microinverter showing as not reporting means communication between that microinverter and the Envoy gateway has been interrupted — but the microinverter may still be producing power. Restart the Envoy and check for a powerline communication (PLC) signal issue first.

Affected Models

  • Enphase IQ8 Series
  • Enphase IQ7 Series
  • Enphase IQ6 Series
  • Enphase IQ5 Series
  • Enphase M-Series (all models)

Common Causes

  • Powerline communication (PLC) signal disrupted by a noisy appliance on the same circuit
  • Envoy gateway lost its connection and needs a restart
  • Single microinverter failed and is not transmitting status
  • Phase mismatch — microinverter on a different phase from the Envoy's meter leg
  • Firmware update pending that requires the microinverter to be re-polled

How to Fix It

  1. Restart the Envoy gateway.

Unplug the Enphase Envoy from its power outlet (or hold the reset button for 5 seconds). Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. Allow 15–20 minutes for the Envoy to re-poll all microinverters and update the Enlighten app.

  2. Check Enlighten for the specific microinverter status.

In the Enlighten app or Enlighten Manager, tap the map or device list view to see which microinverter is not reporting. Note its position on the roof — this helps identify whether it is a single unit issue or a group issue (suggesting wiring or communication).

  3. Check for noisy appliances on the circuit.

Enphase uses powerline communication (PLC) over your existing AC wiring. Pool pumps, air conditioners, battery chargers, and UPS devices can introduce noise that disrupts PLC signals. Try turning off suspected appliances and checking whether reporting resumes.

  4. Wait through one full day of production.

Enphase microinverters that were not communicating due to a brief PLC disruption typically resume reporting on the next clear production day. Intermittent not-reporting that resolves on its own is usually a communication glitch, not a hardware failure.

  5. Flag for inspection if one unit persistently does not report.

A single microinverter that consistently shows no production while all its neighbours are working has likely failed. Contact your Enphase installer — the unit is replaceable under warranty (Enphase IQ series carries a 25-year warranty).

When to Call a Professional

If one microinverter consistently does not report for more than 24 hours while all others do, that specific unit may have failed and needs replacement by an Enphase installer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Half my Enphase microinverters are not reporting — what does that mean?

When a group of microinverters stops reporting together, this usually points to a phase or wiring issue rather than individual failures. Multiple microinverters on the same branch circuit losing communication suggests the Envoy is not reaching that phase or circuit. Contact your installer.

Enphase shows microinverter not reporting but the panel looks fine — is it broken?

Not reporting means no communication, which does not necessarily mean zero production. However, a microinverter that is producing normally will still communicate its data. Persistent not-reporting with no data for 2+ days typically means the unit has failed.
