Communication Error
SolarEdge Solar Inverter
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
A SolarEdge communication error means the inverter cannot send monitoring data to the cloud — but it is likely still producing power normally. Check that your home Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection to the inverter is working, and restart the inverter's communication board.
Affected Models
- SolarEdge SE2200H
- SolarEdge SE3000H
- SolarEdge SE5000H
- SolarEdge SE7000H
- SolarEdge SE10000H
- SolarEdge StorEdge
- SolarEdge Three-Phase Inverters
Common Causes
- Home Wi-Fi router restarted or changed — inverter lost its network connection
- Wi-Fi password changed — inverter still using old credentials
- Ethernet cable to the inverter unplugged or damaged
- SolarEdge monitoring server outage
- SetApp pairing lost after a firmware update
How to Fix It
-
Check that the inverter is still producing power.
A communication error does not necessarily mean the inverter has stopped working. Check the inverter display directly — if it shows normal production figures, the panels are still generating power and only the monitoring link is broken.
-
Restart your home router and the inverter.
Turn off your home router for 30 seconds and turn it back on. Then switch the inverter off at the AC isolator for 30 seconds and back on. Wait 5 minutes for the inverter to reconnect to the network.
-
Check Wi-Fi signal strength at the inverter.
The inverter's built-in Wi-Fi requires a reasonable signal. If the router is far away or the inverter is in a metal enclosure, the signal may be too weak. A Wi-Fi extender near the inverter can help.
-
Reconfigure Wi-Fi via the SolarEdge SetApp.
If your Wi-Fi password changed, you need to reconnect the inverter. Download the SetApp, enable Bluetooth on your phone, stand near the inverter, and follow the Setup → Communication → Wi-Fi steps to re-enter the network credentials.
-
Check the SolarEdge monitoring portal status.
Occasionally the SolarEdge monitoring servers have outages. Check solaredge.com for any service announcements. If other users report the same issue, wait for SolarEdge to restore the service.
When to Call a Professional
If the communication board itself appears to have failed (no lights on the communication module), a solar installer can replace the module.
Frequently Asked Questions
SolarEdge app shows no data for 3 days — is the inverter broken?
Not necessarily. A monitoring communication gap does not mean the inverter stopped producing. Check the inverter display directly — if it shows normal output, only the monitoring link is broken, not the inverter itself.
SolarEdge communication error after NBN / router upgrade — how to fix?
When a router is replaced, all devices lose their stored network credentials. You need to reconfigure the inverter's Wi-Fi connection using the SolarEdge SetApp. The process takes about 5 minutes and does not affect production history.
