Error 52 (Fan Fault)
SolarEdge Solar Inverter
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
SolarEdge Error 52 is a fan fault — the inverter's cooling fan has stopped, is running below target speed, or the fan controller has detected an error. The inverter may continue to operate at reduced capacity or shut down to prevent overheating. Contact a solar installer to inspect the fan.
Affected Models
- SolarEdge SE2200H
- SolarEdge SE3000H
- SolarEdge SE5000H
- SolarEdge SE7000H
- SolarEdge SE10000H
- SolarEdge Three-Phase Inverters
- SolarEdge StorEdge
Common Causes
- Fan motor bearing worn out — fan slows below required speed
- Fan obstructed by dust buildup or debris blocking the air path
- Fan controller electronic fault
- Inverter operated in extremely high ambient temperature causing fan to run at maximum and still overheat
- Fan cable connector loose inside the inverter
How to Fix It
-
Check the inverter's ventilation clearance.
Ensure the inverter has at least 20cm of clear space above, below, and around it for airflow. Objects or insulation pressed against the inverter block airflow and can cause the fan to run harder. Also ensure the installation is not in direct sunlight — wall mounting in shaded areas extends fan and component life.
-
Listen for the fan during early morning operation.
When the inverter warms up after sunrise, you should hear the fan start. If you hear no fan noise or the fan sounds rough or intermittent, it confirms the fan has failed. Report this to your solar installer — the fan needs replacement.
-
Log the error in the SolarEdge monitoring portal.
Log in to monitoring.solaredge.com and view the inverter event log. Error 52 events will be timestamped. Share this log with your installer — repeated occurrences in hot weather indicate either fan wear or undersized ventilation.
-
Contact your solar installer.
Fan replacement on a SolarEdge inverter requires qualified access to live electrical equipment. Do not attempt to open the inverter yourself. Your installer can replace the cooling fan and clear the error code from the inverter. Fan replacement is usually a quick in-situ job.
-
Check warranty status.
SolarEdge inverters carry a standard 12-year warranty (extendable to 25 years). A fan fault within the warranty period is typically covered. Provide your installer with the inverter serial number to check warranty status before authorizing any paid repair.
When to Call a Professional
Error 52 requires a qualified solar installer or electrician to inspect the inverter. Opening a SolarEdge inverter without proper training and while connected to power is dangerous. Do not attempt to open the inverter yourself.
