ADAPTiQ Headphones Not Detected
Bose Soundbar
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
ADAPTiQ is Bose's room calibration that uses special headphones (with a built-in mic) included with the soundbar.
'Not detected' means the headphones aren't connecting properly through the dedicated jack.
Confirm headphones are plugged into the ADAPTiQ port (not regular AUX), check cable for damage, and ensure soundbar is in ADAPTiQ mode via the Bose Music app.
Affected Models
- Bose Soundbar 700
- Bose Soundbar 900
- Bose Smart Soundbar 600
Common Causes
- Headphones plugged into wrong jack (AUX vs ADAPTiQ)
- Cable bent or damaged at strain relief
- ADAPTiQ headphones aren't paired/connected (not Bluetooth — wired)
- Soundbar not in ADAPTiQ mode
- Headphones from a different Bose product (incompatible)
- Lost or replaced ADAPTiQ headphones (need to order replacement)
How to Fix It
-
Check the right jack.
Bose Soundbar 700 and 900 have a small dedicated ADAPTiQ jack on the back, separate from any AUX input.
Headphone plug goes there only.
Plugging in regular AUX won't trigger calibration.
Manual shows the exact location. -
Inspect the cable.
ADAPTiQ headphones have a thin cable.
Look for kinks at the strain relief near the connector or near the headphones themselves.
If cable is broken, headphones won't deliver audio.
Bose sells replacement ADAPTiQ headphones via their website. -
Start ADAPTiQ from app.
Bose Music app → choose your soundbar → Settings → ADAPTiQ Audio Calibration.
Follow the prompts — app guides you through positioning headphones and walking through the room.
If app says 'plug in headphones' you're in the right mode. -
Make sure headphones are the original ones.
ADAPTiQ headphones are model-specific to your soundbar.
Headphones from another Bose device (QuietComfort, etc.) won't work.
Look for the small black ADAPTiQ headphones in the soundbar's original box.
If you discarded them, contact Bose support — replacements are 50-80 USD. -
Reset the soundbar.
Hold Power + Skip Forward for 5 seconds (varies by model).
Light pattern indicates reset.
Re-pair via Bose Music app, retry ADAPTiQ.
Reset clears stuck calibration states.
