WiFi Disconnects Frequently
LG Soundbar
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
LG soundbars dropping WiFi every few minutes usually means signal at the soundbar location is borderline — works at boot, drops under load.
Check signal strength at the soundbar with a phone, switch from 5GHz to 2.4GHz (longer range, more stable for streaming), or add a WiFi extender near the entertainment area.
Update soundbar firmware via the LG Sound Bar app — older firmware had several WiFi stability bugs.
Affected Models
- LG SP9YA
- LG S95QR
- LG SC9S
- LG SP11RA
- LG SN10YG
Common Causes
- WiFi signal weak at soundbar location
- Connected to 5GHz with poor coverage
- Router has band steering causing reconnects
- WiFi channel congested with neighbour networks
- Firmware bug on older versions
- Router throttling devices on guest network
How to Fix It
-
Check signal strength.
Stand next to the soundbar with your phone.
Connect to the same WiFi.
Check signal bars or run a speed test.
Below 2 bars = soundbar will struggle.
If your phone shows good signal but soundbar drops, the soundbar's antenna is the limit — try the next steps. -
Switch to 2.4GHz.
If your soundbar is set to 5GHz, switch to 2.4GHz.
2.4GHz has longer range and penetrates walls better.
5GHz is faster but range is half.
For audio streaming (Spotify, Tidal) bandwidth doesn't matter much — stability does. -
Use LG Sound Bar app to update firmware.
App → your soundbar → Settings → Firmware Update.
LG releases WiFi stability fixes regularly.
Apply the latest version stable.
Keep app and firmware in sync. -
Add a WiFi extender.
If your soundbar is far from the router (across a thick wall), a mesh extender or WiFi 6 extender placed in the entertainment room fixes most signal issues.
TP-Link Deco, Eero, Google Nest WiFi all work. -
Set router to less congested channel.
2.4GHz typically has channels 1, 6, 11.
Use a free WiFi analyzer app to see what neighbours use.
Pick the least congested.
This requires logging into your router and forcing a specific channel — auto-channel often picks badly. -
Reset network on soundbar.
LG soundbar settings → Network → Reset.
Re-add via the LG Sound Bar app.
Clears stale connection state.
