Q-Symphony Not Syncing
Samsung Soundbar
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Samsung Q-Symphony pairs the soundbar with Samsung TV speakers for combined output.
Both devices must be Q-Symphony-compatible (TV from 2020+ and matching soundbar), connected via HDMI eARC, and on the same Wi-Fi.
Enable Q-Symphony on the TV: Sound → Sound Output → set to 'TV + Soundbar' or similar.
Check Samsung's compatibility list — older TVs aren't supported even with newer soundbars.
Affected Models
- Samsung HW-Q990C
- Samsung HW-Q900A
- Samsung HW-S800B
- Samsung HW-Q800B
- Samsung HW-Q60T
Common Causes
- TV is older than 2020 and doesn't support Q-Symphony
- TV not on Tizen OS 5.5+ (firmware update may help)
- Connected via optical instead of HDMI eARC
- Q-Symphony not enabled in TV sound settings
- Wi-Fi network mismatch between TV and soundbar
- Different Samsung accounts on TV and SmartThings
How to Fix It
-
Verify TV compatibility.
Samsung Q-Symphony requires TV from 2020 or newer (Q70T, Q80T, Q90T and later).
Older Samsung TVs don't support it.
TV settings → System → About TV shows model and firmware.
Check Samsung's Q-Symphony compatibility list online. -
Use HDMI eARC port.
Q-Symphony only works over HDMI ARC/eARC.
Optical and Bluetooth don't carry the required signaling.
Plug soundbar HDMI OUT to TV's HDMI port labeled 'eARC' or 'ARC'. -
Enable Q-Symphony on TV.
TV settings → Sound → Sound Output.
Look for 'TV + Soundbar' or 'Q-Symphony' option.
Selecting just 'Soundbar' uses only the bar; Q-Symphony combines TV speakers + soundbar.
Set to TV + Soundbar. -
Update both TV and soundbar firmware.
TV: Settings → Support → Software Update.
Soundbar: SmartThings app → soundbar → firmware update.
Apply both, restart both devices.
Q-Symphony improvements ship in firmware regularly. -
Pair via SmartThings app.
Open SmartThings.
Both TV and soundbar should appear as connected devices.
Same Samsung account on both.
If only one shows, the missing device needs to be added — follow app prompts. -
Power-cycle both devices.
Unplug TV and soundbar.
Wait 60 seconds.
Plug soundbar in first.
Plug TV in.
Q-Symphony handshake happens at TV boot — order matters.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Q-Symphony actually sound better?
Adds high frequencies from the TV speakers to fill out the soundbar's lower frequencies.
For movies and music, the difference is subtle but real.
For news and dialogue, less noticeable.
Many users prefer just the soundbar without TV speakers — turn it off if you don't like the blend.
