App Can't Find Cooker

Anova Sous Vide Cooker

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Anova app finds cookers via Bluetooth first (for setup) then WiFi (for remote control).
If the app can't find the cooker: Bluetooth disabled on phone, app permissions denied, cooker not in pairing mode, or phone is too far away.
Enable Bluetooth, allow Anova app location permission (required for BT discovery on Android), and bring phone within 5 feet of cooker during pairing.

Affected Models

  • Anova Precision Cooker WiFi
  • Anova Precision Cooker Pro
  • Anova Precision Cooker 3.0
  • Anova Nano

Common Causes

  • Bluetooth disabled on phone
  • Anova app missing Bluetooth or location permissions
  • Cooker not in pairing mode (LED solid)
  • Phone too far during initial pairing
  • Old cookers (pre-WiFi) need separate Bluetooth-only flow
  • Multiple cookers nearby confusing app

How to Fix It

  1. Enable Bluetooth on phone.

Phone Settings → Bluetooth → ON.
Anova uses Bluetooth for setup discovery, even WiFi-capable models.
    Without it, no pairing handshake.

  2. Grant Anova app permissions.

Phone Settings → Apps → Anova → Permissions.
Allow Bluetooth and Location (Android requires Location for BT discovery, even though Anova doesn't track location).
    Confirm both granted.

  3. Put cooker in pairing mode.

Hold the cooker's button (round one on the head) for 5 seconds.
LED begins flashing — pairing mode active.
App should detect within 30 seconds.

  4. Stay close.

Bluetooth pairing range is reliable to 10 feet.
Stand within 5 feet of cooker during initial pairing.
After paired, you can use cooker from across the kitchen.
WiFi takes over for remote control.

  5. Force-quit and reopen Anova app.

    Close app completely.
    Reopen.
    App rescans Bluetooth.
Sometimes app caches stale state and fresh boot helps.

  6. Restart phone Bluetooth.

Phone settings → Bluetooth → toggle off, wait 10 seconds, toggle on.
    Forces fresh Bluetooth stack.
    Resolves stuck discovery state.

  7. Hard-reset cooker.

Hold cooker button for 10 seconds.
    Display flashes through reset states.
    Returns to fresh pairing-ready state.
Try app discovery again after reset.
