E02

Bosch Washing Machine

Severity: Critical

What it means

Bosch washer E02 error means the machine has detected a water intake problem — too much water entering the tub, or the pressure switch reporting wrong levels.
Either the inlet valve is stuck open and won't stop filling, or the pressure switch is malfunctioning.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Serie 2 / Serie 4 / Serie 6 / Serie 8 washing machines
  • Bosch Logixx, Maxx, Classixx ranges (older naming)
  • Bosch WAW, WAT, WAY, WAQ model series
  • Bosch Varioperfect washers
  • Same codes appear on Siemens and Neff washers (shared platform)

Common Causes

  • Inlet valve stuck open (won't close mechanically)
  • Pressure switch (water level sensor) faulty
  • Pressure hose between tub and switch blocked or detached
  • Detergent drawer overflowing back into the tub
  • Control board misreading the pressure signal

How to Fix It

  1. Close the water tap.

If water continues entering with the cycle cancelled, turn off the cold water tap behind the machine straight away to stop further fill.

  2. Drain the tub.

Run a Drain or Spin cycle to empty.
If the washer won't drain itself, manually empty via the front debris filter (front-load) or the drain hose at the back.

  3. Check the pressure hose.

Behind the back panel, find the small clear plastic tube running from the bottom of the tub to the pressure switch.
Confirm both ends are firmly connected and the tube isn't pinched, split, or full of trapped water.

  4. Inspect the detergent drawer.

Pull the drawer out and clean it thoroughly.
Detergent residue can cause overflow back-up that triggers E02.
Reduce detergent dose to roughly half the box recommendation if you've been overdosing.

When to Call a Professional

If water keeps entering after you cancel the cycle, close the cold water tap immediately to prevent flooding.
E02 usually needs a technician for inlet valve or pressure sensor replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Bosch washer keep filling with water and showing E02?

The inlet valve has failed in the open position.
Even when the control board sends the 'stop filling' signal, the valve doesn't close mechanically.
Turn off the water tap immediately to prevent flooding, then arrange replacement — the valve costs around £25–£40 and is a 30-minute job for a technician.
