E13
Bosch Washing Machine
Severity: CriticalWhat it means
Bosch washer E13 error means water isn't draining from the tub at the correct rate — a drainage problem.
Like E03, the most common cause is a blocked pump debris filter; less commonly, a kinked hose or a failed pump motor.
Affected Models
- Bosch Serie 2 / Serie 4 / Serie 6 / Serie 8 washing machines
- Bosch Logixx, Maxx, Classixx ranges (older naming)
- Bosch WAW, WAT, WAY, WAQ model series
- Bosch Varioperfect washers
- Same codes appear on Siemens and Neff washers (shared platform)
Common Causes
- Drain pump filter blocked
- Drain hose kinked or crushed behind the machine
- Drain hose discharge end too high (above 100 cm)
- Drain pump impeller jammed by a foreign object
- Drain pump motor failed
How to Fix It
-
Empty the debris filter.
Front bottom of the washer — small access panel.
Tray underneath, unscrew cap counter-clockwise, pull filter out.
Clean off lint, hair, coins.
Refit and tighten. -
Straighten the drain hose.
Pull the washer out and check the corrugated drain hose at the back.
Straighten any kinks.
Make sure the discharge end isn't above 100 cm — siphoning fails above that height. -
Test the standpipe.
Disconnect the drain hose at the standpipe and aim it into a bucket.
Run Drain.
If water flows now, the standpipe is blocked, not the washer.
Use a drain auger or call a plumber. -
Replace the pump (technician).
If the filter and hose are clear but E13 persists, the drain pump motor has failed.
Front of the washer comes off; the pump is a 45-minute job for a technician with the part.
When to Call a Professional
Filter cleaning is DIY and clears most E13 cases.
Pump replacement needs a technician (front of washer comes off) but the part itself is moderately priced.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Bosch E03 and E13 errors?
Both are drainage faults but at slightly different stages.
E03 typically appears when the drain pump can't even start the drain (full blockage or pump dead).
E13 typically appears when drainage starts but doesn't complete in time (partial blockage, slow pump, marginal hose).
Diagnosis and fix are nearly identical: filter, hose, pump.
