E17

Bosch Washing Machine

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

Bosch washer E17 error means the door is not locking properly. Check for clothing caught in the door seal, clean the latch area, and close the door firmly. If E17 persists, the door lock mechanism has failed.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Serie 2 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 4 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 6 Washer
  • Bosch Serie 8 Washer
  • Bosch Logixx Washer

Common Causes

  • Clothing or debris caught in the door seal preventing full closure
  • Debris or detergent residue on the door latch or striker
  • Worn or damaged door seal preventing the door from closing flush
  • Failed door lock mechanism
  • Wiring fault on the door interlock

How to Fix It

  1. Check for clothing in the door seal.

Open the door and inspect the rubber gasket all the way around. Even a small piece of fabric caught in the seal prevents the door from latching fully and triggers E17.

  2. Clean the door latch and striker.

Wipe the plastic latch on the door and the metal striker on the machine frame with a damp cloth. Detergent residue and fabric fibres build up and prevent full engagement.

  3. Close the door firmly.

Push the door closed firmly until you hear a click. Bosch front-load washers require a positive close — a gentle push may not fully engage the lock.

  4. Power cycle the machine.

Switch the machine off at the wall and unplug for 1 minute. Plug back in and try starting a new programme. A power cycle sometimes clears a transient E17 caused by a lock that did not engage cleanly.

When to Call a Professional

If the door closes and latches securely but E17 persists, the door lock interlock or its wiring has failed and needs replacement by a technician.
