FE

LG Washing Machine

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

FE on an LG washer means water has overfilled past the safe level. Power off and turn off the water. The inlet valve has likely stuck open or the pressure sensor is faulty. Do not run more cycles until service confirms — risk of flooding.

Affected Models

  • LG WM3900HBA
  • LG WT7300CW
  • LG F2V9GCP2W
  • LG WM4000HBA
  • LG TurboWash 360

Common Causes

  • Inlet valve stuck open, allowing water to fill past the level sensor
  • Failed pressure (water level) sensor reporting too low when the drum is full
  • Air tube to the pressure sensor blocked or kinked
  • Drain pump too slow, causing fill rate to outpace drain

How to Fix It

  1. Turn off the water at the taps.

Find the cold and hot water taps behind the washer (or under the sink) and close them fully. This stops further water entering the washer while you arrange service.

  2. Power off the washer.

Switch off at the wall socket or breaker. The washer should be fully de-energised — FE indicates a malfunctioning fill control, so leaving it powered risks further overfill if the inlet valve is sticking.

  3. Drain manually if needed.

If the drum is overfilled with water, run a Drain only cycle (if the washer will accept it). If not, drain through the drain pump filter — open the bottom-front panel, place trays, and unscrew the filter cap slowly.

  4. Check for visible water on the floor.

Inspect the floor in front of and beside the washer for any leaked water. Clean up immediately to prevent floor damage. Water that has reached the floor often means an overfill has already breached the door seal.

  5. Book LG-authorised service.

FE needs a technician to test the inlet valve, the pressure sensor, and the air tube. Replacement of the inlet valve (most common cause) costs USD 150–250 fitted. Pressure sensor faults cost USD 200–300 fitted.

When to Call a Professional

FE indicates an overfill — a flood risk. Turn off the water at the wall and book Samsung-authorised service before further use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FE a serious problem?

Yes — FE means the water level safety has triggered. Without intervention, the washer would have flooded the floor. Until the inlet valve or sensor is fixed, every fill cycle risks overfill. Treat as urgent.

Why does FE keep showing every cycle?

Recurring FE every cycle confirms a hardware fault (stuck valve or failed sensor). The washer's safety logic detects the overfill condition each time. The fix is replacement of the failing component — service required.
