IE

LG Washing Machine

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

IE on an LG washer means the washer cannot fill with water in the expected time. Confirm both water taps are fully open, the inlet hoses are not kinked, and the inlet filters are clean. Persistent IE with confirmed flow points to a failed inlet valve.

Affected Models

  • LG WM3900HBA
  • LG WT7300CW
  • LG F2V9GCP2W
  • LG WM4000HBA
  • LG TurboWash 360

Common Causes

  • Water tap (cold or hot) not fully open
  • Inlet hose kinked behind the washer
  • Inlet filter clogged with sediment at the hose connector
  • Failed inlet valve solenoid (after years of use)
  • Household water pressure too low

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm both water taps are fully open.

LG washers have two inlet hoses (hot and cold). Open both taps fully, anti-clockwise. A partially closed tap is the leading cause of IE.

  2. Pull the washer out and inspect the hoses.

Carefully ease the washer forward. Check both inlet hoses for kinks, twists, or pinches against the wall. Straighten any kinks and re-route hoses with gentle curves.

  3. Clean the inlet filters.

Turn off the taps. Disconnect each hose at the tap end. Inside the threaded connector is a small mesh filter — pull it out, rinse under tap water until clean, refit, and reconnect. Sediment is the most common cause of IE.

  4. Test water pressure.

Run a tap nearby — flow should be strong. If household pressure is low, the washer cannot fill in time. Check the main stopcock and any building-wide pressure-reducing valve.

  5. Restart the cycle.

Press Power, then select a Rinse + Spin or a short cycle to verify. IE should clear once flow is restored. If IE returns immediately with confirmed flow, the inlet valve solenoid has failed — book service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between LG IE and LG OE?

IE is the water inlet error (water did not arrive in time). OE is the drain error (water did not drain in time). Both involve water but at different ends of the cycle. The fix paths are completely different.

Why does my LG washer get IE only on hot cycles?

If IE only appears on hot cycles, the hot water tap is closed or the hot inlet hose is blocked. Cold-only cycles fill from the cold inlet and would be unaffected. Check the hot tap and hot inlet filter specifically.
