LG Washer LE Error Code — Motor Fault Fix

What Does This Error Mean?

LG washer LE error means the motor is locked or overloaded and cannot turn the drum. Unplug the washer, remove some laundry, wait 10 minutes, then restart.

Common Causes

Overloaded drum — too much laundry for the motor to turn
Foreign object such as a coin or bra wire jamming the drum

How to Fix It

Reduce the load.

LE is most often caused by overloading. Remove half the laundry and try again. The drum should be no more than three-quarters full.
Unplug and reset.

Switch the machine off at the wall and unplug it. Wait 10 minutes for the motor's thermal protection to reset. Plug back in and restart.
Check for a jammed drum.

Reach inside the drum and try to turn it by hand. If it will not rotate, a foreign object such as a coin or underwire may be lodged between the drum and the tub. Remove it before restarting.
Check the Hall sensor.

The Hall sensor monitors motor speed. A faulty sensor reports motor lock even when the motor is fine. If the drum spins freely by hand and LE persists after a reset, the Hall sensor is the likely fault.

When to Call a Professional

If LE returns after reducing the load and resetting, the Hall sensor, stator, or motor wiring has failed. LG direct-drive motor repairs are moderate-to-advanced — consider calling a technician.
