5E
Samsung Washing Machine
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
Samsung washer 5E error means the drum cannot drain within the allowed time. Clean the pump filter at the bottom front of the machine — this fixes the majority of 5E errors.
Affected Models
- Samsung Front Load Washer
- Samsung Top Load Washer
- Samsung AddWash Washer
- Samsung EcoBubble Washer
- Samsung QuickDrive Washer
Common Causes
- Blocked pump filter — lint, hair, or coins jamming the filter
- Kinked or blocked drain hose
- Drain hose inserted too deep — water siphoning back
- Blocked household drain standpipe
- Failed drain pump motor
How to Fix It
-
Clean the pump filter.
Open the small access panel at the front bottom of the machine. Place a shallow tray underneath to catch water. Slowly unscrew the round filter cap. Remove the filter and clear all lint, coins, or debris. Replace the filter and restart.
-
Check the drain hose.
Pull the machine away from the wall and inspect the corrugated drain hose. Straighten any kinks. The hose should not be pushed more than 15 cm into the standpipe — deeper insertion creates a siphon.
-
Check the household drain standpipe.
Pour water directly into the standpipe to check it drains freely. If the standpipe drains slowly or overflows, the household drain is blocked — not the washing machine.
When to Call a Professional
If the pump filter is clean and the drain hose is unobstructed but 5E keeps appearing, the drain pump motor has failed and needs replacement.
