nd
Samsung Washing Machine
Severity: CriticalWhat it means
Samsung washer nd error means the machine cannot drain water at the expected rate — Samsung's 'No drain error', shown on certain top-load Samsung models as 'nd' rather than 5C/5E.
The drum can't progress to the spin phase because water remains in the tub.
Affected Models
- Samsung Front Load Washer
- Samsung Top Load Washer
- Samsung AddWash Washer
- Samsung EcoBubble Washer
- Samsung QuickDrive Washer
Common Causes
- Debris filter (drain pump filter) blocked
- Drain hose kinked or installed too high
- Drain pump impeller jammed by a small object
- Discharge end of the drain hose blocked
- Drain pump motor failed
How to Fix It
-
Empty the debris filter.
Front-load Samsung washers have a small access door at the front bottom corner.
Place a shallow tray underneath, unscrew the cap counter-clockwise, pull the filter out.
Clean off lint, hair, coins, and small objects. -
Check the drain hose.
Pull the machine out and check the corrugated drain hose at the back for kinks.
Make sure the discharge end isn't pushed deeper than 100 cm into the standpipe — siphoning issues otherwise. -
Test for hose blockage.
Disconnect the drain hose at the standpipe and aim it into a low bucket.
Run a Drain & Spin cycle.
If water flows now, the household drain is blocked, not the washer. -
Listen for the drain pump.
Start a Drain cycle and listen at the bottom of the machine.
You should hear a low hum — the pump motor running.
Silence means the pump isn't getting power or has failed.
When to Call a Professional
If the filter and hose are clear but nd persists, the drain pump motor has failed and needs replacement — a one-hour repair for a competent technician.
