OC

Samsung Washing Machine

Severity: Critical

What it means

Samsung washer OC error means too much water has entered the tub — Samsung's 'Overflow error'.
Either the water inlet valve is stuck open and won't stop filling, or the water level sensor is reporting wrong readings to the control board.

Affected Models

  • Samsung Front Load Washer
  • Samsung Top Load Washer
  • Samsung AddWash Washer
  • Samsung EcoBubble Washer
  • Samsung QuickDrive Washer

Common Causes

  • Water inlet valve stuck open mechanically
  • Pressure sensor (water level sensor) faulty
  • Pressure sensor hose blocked or detached
  • Control board misreading the sensor signal
  • Wiring fault between sensor and control board

How to Fix It

  1. Turn off the water tap.

If water is still entering when the cycle is cancelled, close the cold water tap behind the machine immediately.
This stops further fill while you diagnose.

  2. Drain the excess water.

Run a Drain & Spin cycle to empty the tub.
If the machine won't drain on its own, manually empty via the front debris filter (front-load) or the drain hose at the back.

  3. Check the pressure sensor hose.

Behind the back panel, find the small clear plastic tube running from the bottom of the tub to the pressure sensor.
Make sure it's connected at both ends and not pinched or split.

  4. Run a test cycle.

After clearing the overflow, start a short cycle.
If OC reappears immediately, the pressure sensor or inlet valve has failed and needs replacement — both are technician jobs.

When to Call a Professional

If you've cancelled the cycle and water keeps entering the tub even with the door closed, turn off the water tap immediately and call a technician — the inlet valve has failed open and is at risk of flooding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Samsung washer keep filling and showing OC?

The water inlet valve has failed in the open position.
Even when the control board sends the 'stop filling' signal, the valve doesn't close mechanically.
Turn off the water tap immediately to prevent flooding, then arrange replacement — the valve costs around £25–£40 and is a 30-minute job for a technician.
