Filter Replacement

Xiaomi Air Purifier

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

The filter life counter on a Xiaomi air purifier reaches 0% when the HEPA filter is due for replacement. The Mi Home app shows the remaining filter life and alerts you when it reaches 0. Replace the filter, then reset the counter: in the Mi Home app tap your purifier, go to Settings, and select Reset Filter Life.

Affected Models

  • Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4
  • Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4 Lite
  • Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 3H
  • Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 3C
  • Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Compact

Common Causes

  • HEPA+Carbon combination filter has reached its rated runtime (typically 6–12 months)
  • Filter life counter not reset after a previous filter change
  • Heavy use in a high-pollution environment shortening filter life

How to Fix It

  1. Open the Mi Home app. Tap your air purifier and check the filter life percentage. If it shows 0% or a replace-filter icon, the filter is due.

Xiaomi purifiers track filter life based on cumulative fan runtime hours. The app gives an estimate — always check the filter physically if you are unsure.

  2. Unplug the purifier. Open the back panel by pressing the release button and swinging it open. Remove the cylindrical filter by lifting it straight up.

Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4 and 3H use a cylindrical 360-degree filter that is easy to handle. Do not wash the filter — dispose of it and replace with a new one.

  3. Insert the new filter (cylindrical, brand side up) and close the back panel until it clicks.

  4. In the Mi Home app, tap your purifier, go to Settings (gear icon), and select Reset Filter Life. Confirm the reset.

The reset must be done in the app — there is no physical reset button on most Xiaomi purifier models. If the purifier is not connected to WiFi, reconnect it first before performing the reset.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier filter last?

Xiaomi rates the combination HEPA+Carbon filter for 6–12 months depending on air quality and daily runtime. In highly polluted cities or homes with smokers, the filter may need replacing every 4–6 months. The Mi Home app tracks actual runtime and shows a percentage.
