E30

Bosch Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Bosch fridge E30 means the ice maker module or water dispenser system has reported a fault. Check that the water supply line is connected and the shut-off valve behind the fridge is fully open. If the water supply is fine, reset the ice maker: switch it off at the control panel, wait 30 seconds, then switch it back on.

Affected Models

  • Bosch French Door Refrigerator
  • Bosch Series 6 American-Style Fridge
  • Bosch Series 8 American-Style Fridge
  • Bosch KGF Series
  • Bosch KAD Series

Common Causes

  • Water supply line kinked, frozen, or the shut-off valve behind the fridge partially closed
  • Ice maker module has an internal fault and needs a reset or replacement
  • Water filter clogged beyond its service life, restricting water flow to the ice maker
  • Water inlet valve failed — it controls water flow into the ice maker and dispenser
  • Ice maker arm or sensor stuck in the off position, blocking the module from operating

How to Fix It

  1. Check the water supply

Pull the fridge out and locate the water supply line at the back. Check the line is not kinked and the shut-off valve (usually a quarter-turn valve on the wall) is fully open. A partially closed valve reduces water pressure below the minimum needed.

  2. Reset the ice maker

Go to the fridge control panel and switch the ice maker Off. Wait 30 seconds, then switch it On. Alternatively, locate the reset button on the ice maker module itself and press and hold it for 3 seconds.

  3. Replace the water filter

If the fridge has a built-in water filter that has not been changed within the last 6 months, replace it. A clogged filter reduces flow below the ice maker's minimum requirement, triggering E30. Filter cost is typically $30–50.

  4. Check for a frozen water supply line

If the fridge is in a very cold environment or the freezer is set too low, the water supply line inside the freezer door can freeze. Set the freezer to -18°C and check if E30 clears after 24 hours.

  5. Test the water inlet valve

The water inlet valve is at the back of the fridge where the supply line connects. With the fridge unplugged, disconnect the valve wiring and test the solenoid with a multimeter — it should read 200–500 Ω. An OL reading means the solenoid has failed.

When to Call a Professional

If resetting the ice maker and checking the water supply does not resolve E30, the water inlet valve needs testing. This requires accessing the valve at the back of the fridge. Contact Bosch service if you are not comfortable with this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bosch fridge E30 — ice maker not making ice but water dispenser works — why?

If the dispenser works but the ice maker does not, the water supply specifically to the ice maker module is the issue. Check the small water line that feeds the ice tray — it may be frozen or kinked. Also reset the ice maker.

E30 on a Bosch fridge with no ice maker — why?

If your Bosch fridge model does not have a built-in ice maker, E30 on your model may refer to a different fault. Consult your specific model's error code list in the owner's manual — Bosch error code numbering varies between fridge-freezer families.

How do I reset the ice maker on a Bosch fridge?

On most Bosch American-style fridges, press and hold the Ice Maker button on the control panel for 3 seconds to reset. On some models, the reset button is on the ice maker module itself — open the freezer, locate the unit, and press the button for 3 seconds.
