i50
Frigidaire Dishwasher
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Frigidaire i50 means the door latch switch did not signal a closed door when the cycle started.
The dishwasher will not run a wash cycle without that confirmation — water inside an open door is the worst possible kitchen flood.
The cause is usually a worn latch, a misaligned strike plate, or the switch itself failing after years of use.
Affected Models
- Frigidaire Gallery FGID series
- Frigidaire Professional FPID series
- Frigidaire FFID series
- Frigidaire Crown FFCD series
Common Causes
- Latch worn and not gripping the strike fully
- Strike plate on the tub bent slightly
- Door alignment shifted after the dishwasher moved
- Latch switch failed
- Wire harness from latch to control loose
- Plastic of the latch broken from a hard slam
How to Fix It
-
Open and close the door firmly.
Push the door closed until you hear a positive click.
Some i50 cases are simply a door that did not click — the user thought it was closed.
Try a cycle.
If it runs, the door just needed firmer closure. -
Check door alignment.
Look at the gap between door and tub when closed.
Even gap top-to-bottom = aligned.
One side wider = the dishwasher is sitting on uneven floor or the door hinges have loosened.
Adjust with the levelling feet under the unit. -
Inspect the strike plate.
Open the door fully.
Look at the metal tab at the top of the tub that the latch hooks onto.
Bent, loose, or missing = no proper latch engagement = i50.
Bend back into shape with pliers if straight is possible, or replace the strike. -
Replace the door latch assembly.
Unplug the dishwasher and turn off the water supply.
Open the inner door panel screws.
The latch assembly is at the top of the door inside.
Two screws, one wire harness.
Replacement latches are 25-60 USD genuine, 15-30 USD aftermarket. -
Reseat the harness.
Trace the latch harness from the door up through the hinge to the control board.
Disconnect, blow dust out, reseat firmly.
Loose connectors after years of door swing cause many i50 codes. -
Test with the door propped open.
After repair, open the door slightly and try a cycle — it should refuse with i50.
Then close firmly — it should start.
This confirms the switch correctly distinguishes open from closed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won't my dishwasher even let me start a cycle?
i50 prevents starting because flooding from a partially closed door is one of the most expensive failure modes a dishwasher has.
The control errs on the side of refusing rather than risking the floor.
Fix the latch, do not bypass.
