gAS

LG Dryer

Severity: Moderate

What it means

LG dryer gAS is the no-gas-supply code on LG gas dryers.
LG's exact wording: 'gAS error code means that the dryer is not receiving gas. Make sure that the gas supply valve is turned ON.'
This appears most often after gas line work has been done elsewhere in the house — a plumber closed the dryer valve and forgot to reopen it.

Affected Models

  • LG DLG series gas dryers
  • LG DLGX TurboSteam series gas dryers with steam
  • LG gas-variant Signature and Studio series dryers
  • LG WashTower gas-variant units (where applicable)
  • gAS does not apply to electric LG dryers (DLE / DLEX) or heat pump models (DLHC) — those have no gas line

Common Causes

  • Gas supply shutoff valve behind the dryer is closed or partially closed
  • Main gas supply to the house turned off temporarily
  • Bottled propane (LP) gas tank empty — applies to LP-converted units
  • Gas valve igniter failed to light (multiple consecutive attempts trigger gAS)
  • Gas regulator on the supply line malfunctioning

How to Fix It

  1. Check the gas supply valve behind the dryer.

Pull the dryer out enough to see the gas connection at the back.
There's a quarter-turn lever or knob on the gas line — fully ON is when the lever is parallel to the pipe.
If it's at 90° to the pipe, it's OFF.
    Turn it parallel and confirm.

  2. Confirm gas is reaching the house.

Try another gas appliance — a gas range burner, gas water heater, gas fireplace.
If those also have no gas, the supply to the house is off (utility shutoff, tank empty, or main valve closed).
That's a separate issue from the dryer.

  3. Restart the dryer.

Once gas supply is confirmed, start a Time Dry cycle with heat selected.
Listen for the gas igniter clicking (a series of fast ticks at the start of the cycle).
If you hear the clicks and the dryer warms up, gAS is resolved.

  4. Schedule LG service if gAS persists with gas supply on.

If gas is verified reaching the dryer (other appliances work, valve is open) and gAS still appears, the internal gas valve, igniter assembly, or flame sensor has failed.
NEVER DIY repair gas components — this is LG-authorised-technician work only.

When to Call a Professional

First step is always the supply valve check.
If gas is reaching the dryer and gAS still appears, the dryer's internal gas valve, igniter, or flame sensor needs LG service — never DIY work on a gas dryer's internal gas components.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does gAS sometimes appear right after I've had work done on the gas line?

Plumbers and HVAC technicians often close the dryer's gas valve when working on other gas-line components — it's standard practice to isolate appliances during work.
After the job is done, the dryer valve sometimes doesn't get re-opened.
If you've had gas work done in the last few days, that's almost certainly the cause — pull the dryer out and reopen the valve.
