P1

Electra Split AC

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

P1 on an Electra AC means the float switch inside the indoor unit's drain pan has detected water rising too high. This happens when the condensate drain is blocked or the drain pump has failed, causing water to back up. The AC shuts down to prevent water from overflowing into the room or ceiling.

Affected Models

  • Electra Avante Inverter
  • Electra Classic Inverter
  • Electra Alpha Series
  • Electra Split AC (all inverter models)
  • Electra 1 Ton / 1.5 Ton / 2 Ton Inverter

Common Causes

  • Condensate drain pipe blocked with algae, mould, or debris
  • Drain pump failed — water cannot be pumped out of the pan
  • Float switch stuck in the raised (fault) position — false P1
  • Drain pipe connected with an upward section that prevents free drainage
  • Very high humidity causing more condensation than the drain system can handle

How to Fix It

  1. Switch off the AC and check for water dripping inside the room.

If water is dripping inside, the drain pan is overflowing — switch off immediately to prevent water damage to walls or electrical fittings.

  2. Locate and clear the condensate drain pipe.

The drain pipe exits the indoor unit (usually a 16–20mm plastic pipe) and leads outside or to a household drain point. Use a wet/dry vacuum at the exit end to suck out any blockage, or blow compressed air gently from the exit back toward the unit.

  3. Clean the drain tray.

Open the front panel and wipe the plastic drain tray with a cloth and diluted bleach solution. Algae and slime buildup in the tray is the most common cause of recurring drain blockages.

  4. Restore power and restart.

Once the drain is clear and the tray has emptied, P1 should clear automatically. If P1 persists after the drain is clear, the float switch itself may be stuck — call a technician.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between P0 and P1 on an Electra AC?

On most Electra models, P0 indicates a drain pump motor fault (the pump itself has failed), while P1 indicates the float switch has tripped due to high water level in the drain pan. P1 is more commonly caused by a blocked drain pipe rather than a pump failure.

How can I prevent P1 from recurring?

Monthly drain maintenance during the cooling season is the most effective prevention. Pour one tablespoon of household bleach diluted in a cup of water into the drain tray access point. This kills algae before it grows into a blockage. Also check that the drain pipe has a continuous downward slope with no upward bends.
