E15

Lumenis Medical Laser

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error E15 on a Lumenis device means the system's self-calibration check has returned a result outside the acceptable range. This can occur because the ambient temperature is outside the calibrated operating range, the calibration files have become corrupted, or a component used in calibration has drifted or failed. Allowing the device to reach operating temperature and re-running calibration resolves many E15 errors.

Affected Models

  • Lumenis M22 IPL Platform
  • Lumenis AcuPulse CO2 Laser
  • Lumenis UltraPulse
  • Lumenis LightSheer DUET
  • Lumenis ResurFX

Common Causes

  • Room temperature too cold — device started before reaching operating temperature
  • Calibration files corrupted on the system hard drive or flash storage
  • Energy delivery component drifted — IPL lamp, laser medium, or delivery fiber degraded
  • Internal temperature sensor giving incorrect readings
  • System clock or firmware issue causing incorrect calibration sequence

How to Fix It

  1. Check the room temperature.

Lumenis devices have a specified operating temperature range, typically 18–30°C (64–86°F). If the treatment room is cold (early morning in winter, for example), allow the device to warm up for 15–20 minutes before starting. E15 caused by a cold start often resolves once the device reaches operating temperature.

  2. Power the device off completely, wait 2 minutes, and restart.

A full restart re-runs the boot sequence and calibration checks from scratch. This clears transient calibration errors caused by brief anomalies during the startup sequence.

  3. Run the device's manual calibration routine if available.

Many Lumenis platforms have a calibration or self-test option in the service menu. Consult your device's operator manual for the procedure. A successful manual calibration will clear E15.

  4. If E15 persists across multiple restarts and at normal room temperature, call Lumenis service.

A persistent E15 usually means a component involved in calibration has drifted and needs adjustment or replacement by an engineer.

When to Call a Professional

If E15 persists after the device reaches operating temperature and a calibration re-run, contact Lumenis service. Calibration failures that persist may indicate component degradation requiring engineer assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does E15 mean my Lumenis device needs full factory recalibration?

Not necessarily — E15 often resolves with a restart and warm-up. Factory-level recalibration (performed by a Lumenis engineer using calibration equipment) is needed only when E15 persists after normal troubleshooting, indicating a component has genuinely drifted outside tolerance.

Can treating patients cause E15 to appear mid-session?

E15 mid-session is less common than during startup. If it appears mid-session, stop treatment immediately — the device is indicating it can no longer verify accurate energy delivery. A treatment delivered with uncalibrated energy could under- or over-treat the patient.
