Err 4F

EcoFlow Portable Power Station

Severity: Moderate

What it means

EcoFlow Err 4F means the unit's internal cooling system reported a fault — usually the cooling fan has stalled, slowed below its expected RPM, or the thermal sensor has read out of range.
The unit throttles output power to keep internal components within safe temperature.
Err 4F often clears after the unit cools down, but a repeat appearance means the fan needs service.

Affected Models

  • EcoFlow DELTA Max (high-output unit, dual fans)
  • EcoFlow DELTA Pro
  • EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max
  • EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro under sustained high load

Common Causes

  • Fan blocked by dust, lint, or pet hair drawn through the intake grille
  • Fan motor bearing failed (older units, especially after heavy use in dusty environments)
  • Air intake obstructed by something pressed against the unit (a bag, a piece of furniture)
  • Thermal sensor wire connection loose internally
  • Unit operated for hours inside a closed container without ventilation

How to Fix It

  1. Switch the unit off and let it cool.

Hold the main power button until the screen goes black.
Move the unit to an open space and let it sit for 20-30 minutes.
Thermal protection won't release until internal temperature drops, so there's no point retrying immediately.

  2. Clear the intake and exhaust grilles.

Look at the side and back grilles for visible dust or lint.
Use compressed air (short bursts, not continuous — that spins the fan backwards and can damage it) to blow dust out from the outside.
A vacuum on low suction at the grille pulls loose debris out cleanly.

  3. Listen for the fan on the next power-up.

After cooling and cleaning, power back on.
Load the unit with a small AC appliance to get internal temperature climbing.
Within 1-2 minutes you should hear the fan spool up — a clear whoosh sound from the side grilles.
Silence means the fan motor has failed and the unit needs service.

  4. Check the operating environment.

Don't run an EcoFlow in a sealed RV cabinet, a covered crate, or with bags piled against its grilles.
The unit needs at least 10-15 cm of clear space around the intake and exhaust to move heat.
Sustained high-power use in a confined space will trigger Err 4F even on a fan that's perfectly healthy.

  5. If Err 4F repeats, contact support.

A repeat Err 4F after cleaning and giving the unit clear ventilation means the fan or thermal sensor has failed internally.
EcoFlow service can replace the fan assembly; on a warrantied unit this is typically covered.
Have the serial number and a description of when Err 4F triggers (load level, environment) ready for the support call.
