Not Turning On
EcoFlow Portable Power Station
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
An EcoFlow that will not turn on is almost always in a deep discharge state — the BMS has locked the unit to protect the battery cells. Connect the AC charger and leave it for at least 2 hours before attempting to press the power button.
Affected Models
- EcoFlow DELTA
- EcoFlow DELTA Pro
- EcoFlow DELTA Max
- EcoFlow DELTA 2
- EcoFlow RIVER
- EcoFlow RIVER Pro
- EcoFlow RIVER 2
Common Causes
- Battery completely discharged — BMS lockout
- Power button held too briefly — requires a 2-second press
- Unit stored without charging for months — self-discharged below BMS minimum
- AC charger cable or brick not delivering power
- X-Boost or ECO mode causing the unit to appear off when standby is active
How to Fix It
-
Connect the AC charger and do not press any buttons.
A deeply discharged EcoFlow needs the AC charger to wake the BMS. Leave it connected for at least 2 hours without pressing any buttons. The charge LED or display should illuminate within 5–10 minutes if the charger is working.
-
Hold the power button for 2 seconds.
EcoFlow units require a deliberate press and hold. Hold the power button until the display lights up or you hear a startup sound — a brief tap is not enough.
-
Check the AC charger is working.
Confirm the charger brick's LED is on and the cable is firmly seated at both ends. Try a different wall outlet. EcoFlow's AC charger outputs up to 1200W — ensure the wall outlet can supply this (not a surge-protected extension lead with a low rating).
-
Try the 12V car charging input.
If the AC charger cannot wake the unit, try the 12V DC car charger port. This uses a different charging path and can sometimes revive a unit that the BMS is blocking through AC input.
-
Check whether the unit is in ECO standby mode.
EcoFlow units with ECO mode enabled may appear off but are actually in standby. The display will be blank but the unit will respond to a 2-second button press. Check the EcoFlow app — if the unit appears online, it is in standby.
When to Call a Professional
If the unit shows no response to any charging input after 6 hours and the charge LED never activates, the BMS or battery may need replacement. Contact EcoFlow support.
Frequently Asked Questions
EcoFlow DELTA stored for 4 months — now completely dead. Can it be revived?
Usually yes. Connect the AC charger and leave it for 3–4 hours. EcoFlow units can deep-discharge during long storage. After sufficient charging time, the BMS should release its lockout and the unit will turn on. EcoFlow recommends charging to 60% before storage and recharging every 3 months.
EcoFlow display flashes briefly then goes off — what does that mean?
A flash and immediate shutdown means the battery has just enough power to attempt a boot but not enough to sustain operation. Leave it on the AC charger for 1–2 hours. The flash confirms the hardware is not dead — it just needs more charge.
