Not Returning to Dock

Eufy Robot Vacuum

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A Eufy RoboVac that cannot find its dock is usually caused by the dock being moved, the dock's infrared signal being blocked, or the robot's charging sensors being dirty. Place the dock against a flat wall with 3 feet of open space on each side. Clean the charging contacts on both the dock and the robot.

Affected Models

  • Eufy RoboVac 11S
  • Eufy RoboVac 15C
  • Eufy RoboVac 25C
  • Eufy RoboVac 30C
  • Eufy RoboVac G30
  • Eufy RoboVac X8
  • Eufy RoboVac L70

Common Causes

  • Dock moved from its original position after the robot mapped the area
  • Infrared dock signal blocked by furniture, cables, or a rug in front of the dock
  • Charging contacts on the robot or dock dirty or oxidised
  • Robot battery too depleted to complete the return journey
  • Dock not on a hard, level surface — placed on carpet prevents stable docking
  • Bright sunlight directly on the dock infrared emitters — causing signal interference

How to Fix It

  1. Ensure the dock is positioned correctly.

Place the dock against a flat wall with at least 3 feet (1 metre) of clear space to the left and right. Do not place the dock in a corner, behind a door, under furniture, or on a rug. The dock infrared signal needs unobstructed space in front of it for the robot to approach from multiple angles.

  2. Clean the charging contacts.

On the back of the RoboVac, find the two gold charging contacts (small metal pads). Clean them with a dry cloth or a cotton swab. Also clean the corresponding contacts on the dock base. Oxidised contacts are a common cause of docking failures where the robot reaches the dock but fails to make a reliable charging connection.

  3. Move the dock away from direct sunlight or bright lamps.

The RoboVac uses infrared to locate the dock. Strong sunlight or halogen floor lamps near the dock can overwhelm the dock's infrared emitters, making the dock invisible to the robot. Move the dock to a position not in direct sunlight.

  4. Manually place the robot on the dock to charge, then rerun.

If the robot battery is deeply depleted, it may have shut down before reaching the dock. Place the robot manually on the dock to charge fully (typically 4-6 hours). After a full charge, run a cleaning cycle from the dock so the robot starts with the dock location fresh in its memory.

  5. Reset the dock location in the eufy Clean app.

On mapping models (RoboVac G30, L70, X8), if the dock was moved, the stored map shows the dock in the wrong location. In the eufy Clean app, go to Settings > Clean Preferences > Reset Map. After the reset, run a full mapping clean from the dock so the robot re-learns the dock's new position.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far away can a Eufy RoboVac find its dock?

The Eufy dock infrared signal has a range of approximately 6-8 feet in a direct line. The robot searches in expanding spirals when low on battery. If the dock is in a different room with a closed or narrow door, the robot may not be able to detect the signal. Always position the dock so the robot can access it from multiple directions.

My Eufy docks but shows a flashing red charging light — what does that mean?

A flashing red light on the Eufy dock charging indicator means the robot is seated on the dock but not making proper electrical contact. Clean both the robot's charging contacts and the dock contacts with a dry cloth. Also check that the robot is sitting squarely on the dock — not tilted or only partially seated.
