Error 14
Roborock Robot Vacuum
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Roborock Error 14 means the battery has detected an abnormal condition — it is not charging correctly, the voltage is out of range, or the battery has reached the end of its useful life. Cleaning the charging contacts often resolves it. If not, the battery needs replacing.
Affected Models
- Roborock S5
- Roborock S6 MaxV
- Roborock S7
- Roborock Q5 Max
- Roborock E4
- Roborock S8
Common Causes
- Battery has reached end of life after 2–4 years of use and can no longer hold a charge properly
- Charging contacts on the robot's underside are dirty, corroded, or coated with floor wax
- Charging contacts on the dock are dirty or bent
- Battery deeply discharged — left uncharged for months until the cells dropped below the recovery threshold
- Overheating during a long clean in a warm environment has stressed the battery cells
How to Fix It
-
Remove the robot from the dock and flip it upside down. Locate the two metal charging contacts on the underside (typically near the front).
The charging contacts are the two small metal circles or strips that touch the dock's pins. They should be shiny and clean.
-
Clean the charging contacts on the robot with a dry cloth or a pencil eraser. Then clean the corresponding pins on the dock.
Floor wax, pet hair oils, and general grime build up on contacts over months of use. A tarnished contact cannot carry sufficient current to charge the battery correctly.
-
Place the robot back on the dock and leave it to charge for at least 4 hours undisturbed. Do not start a clean cycle during this time.
If the battery is deeply discharged, it may need an extended charge at low current before the robot's battery management system accepts a normal charge rate.
-
If Error 14 persists, reset the robot: press and hold the power button for 5–10 seconds until the robot chimes, then return it to the dock.
A reset clears cached battery state. On some units a temporary battery management fault causes Error 14 and a reset resolves it without any hardware change.
-
If Error 14 returns after cleaning contacts and a reset, the battery has failed. Order a replacement battery for your Roborock model from the Roborock website or an authorised retailer.
Battery replacement on most Roborock models requires removing the bottom cover (4–6 screws) and swapping the pack. Roborock's support site has model-specific guides.
When to Call a Professional
If cleaning the contacts and a reset do not clear Error 14, the battery needs replacing. Roborock replacement batteries are available for most models — installation is straightforward and detailed in the Roborock support guides.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a Roborock battery last?
Roborock lithium-ion batteries typically last 2–4 years or around 300–500 full charge cycles before capacity degrades noticeably. Regular use (daily or near-daily cleaning) wears the battery faster than occasional use. Error 14 appearing on a unit over 2 years old often means it is time for a new battery.
Is a Roborock battery replacement expensive?
Replacement batteries for most Roborock models cost between $20–$50 from authorised suppliers. Installation is DIY-friendly on most models — no soldering required, just a screwdriver. A new battery restores full run time and resolves Error 14 permanently.
