Picture Cut Off

TCL Roku TV

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Press Star (*) on the Roku remote → Picture Settings → Picture Size → Normal — this disables cropping and shows the full image. If the picture is still cut off, disable overscan on the connected device (console or PC) rather than the TV. For PC users, right-click the desktop → Display Settings → Scale → set to 100%.

Affected Models

  • TCL 4-Series Roku TV
  • TCL 5-Series Roku TV
  • TCL 6-Series Roku TV
  • TCL 8-Series Roku TV
  • TCL QM8 / QM9 series

Common Causes

  • Picture Size set to Zoom, Stretch, or Fill instead of Normal
  • Overscan enabled on a connected PC or game console
  • Roku Picture Size accidentally changed via remote
  • Content broadcast with overscan padding (older cable channels)
  • Connected device outputting an unsupported aspect ratio

How to Fix It

  1. Set Picture Size to Normal

Press Star (*) on the Roku remote → Picture Settings → Picture Size → Normal. This is the 1:1 setting that shows every pixel from the source without cropping.

  2. Try other Picture Size options

If Normal still clips the image, try Direct (exact source resolution) or Fit Screen. Avoid Zoom or Fill, which crop the top/bottom or stretch the image.

  3. Disable overscan on a PC

Right-click the desktop → Display Settings → Scale → 100%. Also check your GPU control panel (NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings) → Display → Adjust Desktop Size and Position → No Scaling.

  4. Disable overscan on a game console

PS5: Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output → Adjust TV Screen → disable overscan. Xbox: Settings → General → TV & Display → Calibrate TV → follow the overscan wizard.

  5. Reset picture settings

Press Star (*) → Picture Settings → Reset Picture Settings. This restores all picture options to factory defaults, clearing any accidentally applied zoom or stretch setting.

When to Call a Professional

Picture cut-off is always a settings issue. No hardware service is needed.
