Pin to Pair

Fitbit Smart Watch

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Fitbit shows a 4-digit code on the screen during pairing — the Fitbit app then asks you to enter that same code.
This confirms the right device is being paired and not a nearby Fitbit owned by someone else.
Look at the watch screen, type the matching number into the app within 30 seconds, and pairing completes.
If the code does not appear or pairing keeps failing, the device may need a restart.

Affected Models

  • Fitbit Sense and Sense 2
  • Fitbit Versa, Versa 2, 3, and 4
  • Fitbit Charge 5 and 6
  • Fitbit Inspire 2 and 3
  • Fitbit Luxe

Common Causes

  • Normal pairing prompt during first setup
  • Re-pairing after a device reset
  • Bluetooth dropped briefly during pairing
  • Phone pairing list got cluttered with old Fitbit entries
  • Code timed out before user entered it
  • Multiple Fitbits in range causing confusion

How to Fix It

  1. Look at the Fitbit screen.

When the app asks for the pin, the Fitbit shows a 4-digit code on its display.
The code stays visible for about 30 seconds.
Read it carefully — 0 vs O can be confusing on small screens.

  2. Enter the code in the app.

Tap the code-entry field in the Fitbit app.
Type the 4 digits exactly as shown on the watch.
Pairing completes within seconds when accepted.

  3. If code disappeared, retry.

If you missed the code, tap Cancel in the app and start the pairing flow again.
The Fitbit displays a fresh code.
Be ready to type quickly — the timeout is short.

  4. Restart the Fitbit if no code shows.

If the Fitbit screen never shows a pairing code, restart it.
Hold the side button (Versa/Sense) or the small button on the bottom (Charge/Inspire) for 10 seconds.
The Fitbit reboots and pairing can be retried.

  5. Clear old Bluetooth pairings.

Phone Settings → Bluetooth → forget any old Fitbit entries.
Old pairings can interfere with new ones.
This is especially common if you upgraded from one Fitbit model to another.

  6. Move other Fitbits away.

If multiple Fitbits are in the same room, the app may try to pair the wrong one.
Move other Fitbits to another room during pairing — or power them off — so only the target device is broadcasting.

  7. Restart phone Bluetooth.

Toggle Bluetooth off, wait 10 seconds, toggle on.
This refreshes the Bluetooth stack and clears any stuck pairing state.
    Resume pairing from the app.
