E61

Electrolux Dryer

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Electrolux dryer error E61 indicates a fault in the heating element or its control circuit — the dryer detected that heating is not occurring as expected. A tripped thermal overload fuse is the most common cause and can be reset, but if the heating element itself has failed it requires replacement.

Affected Models

  • Electrolux EDH3897GDE
  • Electrolux EDH3898GDE
  • Electrolux TWSL5E300
  • Electrolux EDC47130W
  • Electrolux EDC57130W

Common Causes

  • Thermal overload fuse on the heating element has tripped due to overheating
  • Heating element wire has broken open
  • Faulty temperature sensor giving incorrect readings to the control board
  • Lint filter or condenser is blocked, causing the dryer to overheat and trip the fuse

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the lint filter and the condenser (if your model has one). A blocked lint path is the most common cause of overheating that trips the thermal fuse. Clean both after every use.

On condenser dryers, the condenser unit at the bottom of the door should be rinsed under a tap every 1–2 months. A blocked condenser drastically reduces airflow and causes the heating circuit to overheat.

  2. Turn off and unplug the dryer. Wait 30 minutes to allow any tripped thermal fuse to cool. Plug it back in and run a test cycle.

Some thermal overload devices are self-resetting after cooling. If E61 does not return after the cool-down, blocked airflow was likely the cause — address the lint/condenser cleaning.

  3. If E61 returns immediately, the heating element or thermal fuse has failed permanently. These parts are replaceable but require disassembling the dryer cabinet. Contact an Electrolux authorised service technician.

Heating element replacement is a standard repair for experienced appliance technicians. Do not attempt to bypass the thermal fuse — it is a safety device.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Electrolux dryer shows E61 but the drum still turns — is the heating working?

If the drum turns but E61 is showing, the heating element circuit has faulted but the motor circuit is still working. The dryer will tumble clothes without heating them. Do not continue using the dryer expecting clothes to dry — they will only tumble cold until the heating fault is resolved.
