Won't Turn On

Bose Bluetooth Speaker

Severity: Critical

What Does This Error Mean?

Connect the charger and wait 15 minutes — the battery may be fully depleted. Hold the Power button for 10 seconds to perform a hard reset if the speaker is frozen. If the charging LED never lights up, the charging port or battery needs inspection.

Affected Models

  • Bose SoundLink Flex
  • Bose SoundLink Max
  • Bose SoundLink Color II / III
  • Bose SoundLink Revolve / Revolve+
  • Bose Portable Smart Speaker

Common Causes

  • Battery fully discharged with no reserve to power on
  • Firmware hang leaving the speaker in an unresponsive state
  • Faulty charging cable or adapter not delivering power
  • Failed battery cell after extended use
  • Water or moisture damage to internal circuitry

How to Fix It

  1. Charge for at least 15 minutes

Connect using the original cable and a wall adapter (not a PC USB port, which may not supply enough current). Leave it charging without pressing any buttons.

  2. Perform a hard reset

Hold the Power button for 10 seconds until the speaker powers off completely. Release, then press once to power on. This clears a frozen firmware state.

  3. Try a different cable

Bose SoundLink Flex and Max use USB-C. Older models use micro-USB or a proprietary pin connector. A damaged cable is the most common reason the battery never charges.

  4. Check the charging LED

When connected to power, most Bose speakers show an amber LED while charging. No LED means power is not reaching the battery — test with a different cable and adapter.

  5. Factory reset

For SoundLink Flex: hold Power + Volume Down for 10 seconds. For SoundLink Revolve: hold Power + Volume Down for 10 seconds. Refer to your model's manual for the exact combination. A factory reset clears deep firmware faults.

When to Call a Professional

If the speaker does not respond after a hard reset and 30 minutes of charging with a verified working cable, the battery or mainboard requires Bose service. Contact Bose support for repair options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bose SoundLink Flex won't turn on after getting wet — how to fix?

The SoundLink Flex is IP67 waterproof, but internal moisture can still cause a temporary short. Leave the speaker in a dry, warm place for 24–48 hours before charging or attempting to power on.

Bose speaker power button flashes but won't turn on — what does it mean?

A flashing power button usually indicates a firmware error or a critically low battery. Charge for 30 minutes, then hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a reset.

Bose speaker worked yesterday but is completely dead today — why?

Lithium-ion batteries can enter a deep-discharge protection mode if left uncharged for a long period. Leave it connected to the charger for 1–2 hours before pressing power. The battery recovery can take time.
