E3
Tadiran Split AC
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
E3 on a Tadiran AC is a communication error — the indoor and outdoor units have lost the signal they send to each other through the interconnecting cable. The most common causes are a loose communication wire, a power issue at the outdoor unit, or a PCB fault. A full power cycle often clears E3 if it was caused by a power glitch.
Affected Models
- Tadiran Inverter Split AC
- Tadiran Breeze Series
- Tadiran T-MAX Series
- Tadiran Coral Series
- Tadiran Split AC (all inverter models)
Common Causes
- Communication wire between indoor and outdoor unit loose, broken, or disconnected
- Outdoor unit not receiving power — tripped breaker or disconnected isolator switch
- Voltage fluctuation or power outage disrupting the communication handshake
- Outdoor PCB fault preventing it from responding to the indoor unit
- Indoor PCB communication circuit fault
- Rodent or weather damage to the inter-unit cable
How to Fix It
-
Check that the outdoor unit has power.
Go to the electrical panel and look for a tripped breaker for the AC circuit. Also check for an isolator switch near the outdoor unit — these can accidentally be switched off.
-
Turn off the AC at the main circuit breaker, wait 60 seconds, and restore power.
A complete power cycle resets both PCBs simultaneously. E3 caused by a power interruption or voltage event usually clears this way.
-
After restarting, listen for the outdoor unit starting up.
The outdoor unit should start within 3 minutes of the indoor unit being switched on. A completely silent outdoor unit suggests a power or outdoor PCB problem.
-
If E3 persists after a power cycle, call a Tadiran technician.
The technician will test the signal wire with a multimeter and identify which end of the communication circuit is at fault.
When to Call a Professional
If a full power cycle does not clear E3, a Tadiran authorised technician is needed. Communication wiring runs between two units and may require specialist tools to trace and test.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Tadiran E3 appear after a power cut?
When power is cut and then restored, the indoor and outdoor PCBs restart at slightly different times. Occasionally the communication handshake fails during this restart sequence, triggering E3. A deliberate power cycle — breaker off for 60 seconds, then on — gives both units a clean simultaneous restart and usually resolves this.
Can E3 be caused by an installation error?
Yes — if the signal wire was not connected correctly during installation, E3 will appear immediately on first startup. The installing company should correct this at no charge.
