Eero is Offline

eero Mesh Router

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

The eero app shows 'Eero is offline' on a specific node when the gateway eero (the one connected to your modem) hasn't heard from that node for a few minutes.
The whole network usually keeps working — devices that were near the offline node may roam to a different one.
Cause is almost always wireless backhaul drop, power loss to that node, or distance between nodes.
The fix is a quick power cycle, sometimes a relocation.

Affected Models

  • eero Pro 6 and Pro 6E
  • eero 6 and eero 6+
  • eero Beacon
  • eero Max 7

Common Causes

  • Power loss at the offline node — outlet, surge protector, breaker
  • Wireless backhaul dropped — node moved too far from the gateway
  • Mesh repath after another node went offline (cascade effect)
  • Firmware update interrupted on that specific node
  • Cable connection issue if the node was wired to the gateway

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm the node has power.

    Walk to the offline eero.
The status LED on the front should be solid white when working.
If it's off entirely, the node has no power — check the outlet, the USB-C cable, and any surge protector or smart plug it's on.

  2. Power cycle the offline node.

    Unplug it for 30 seconds.
    Plug back in.
Watch the LED: it goes solid red while booting → blinking white as it scans for the network → solid white when joined.
The whole process takes 2-4 minutes.
If the LED stays red, the node can't see the gateway — go to the next step.

  3. Move the node closer to the gateway.

If wireless backhaul keeps dropping, the node is too far away.
Walk it to within line-of-sight of the gateway and retry.
If it joins from there, the original spot was outside range — split the difference and try again.
Aim for backhaul signal strength of 'Excellent' or 'Good' in the eero app's Network Health.

  4. Reboot the gateway.

If multiple nodes are offline, the gateway eero is the issue.
Power cycle the gateway by unplugging the modem and the gateway eero, waiting 30 seconds, then powering them back on (modem first, wait for it to fully come up, then gateway eero).
The mesh rebuilds and other nodes come back.

  5. Re-add the node if nothing else works.

In the eero app, tap the offline node → Advanced → Remove from network.
Then run setup again — the app guides you through scanning the QR code on the bottom of the eero.
Last resort, but reliable for nodes with stuck firmware.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my eero go offline at the same time every day?

Almost always: a smart plug or timer is cutting power to the eero on schedule.
Or a neighbouring device on the same outlet is causing a brief brownout.
Check what else is on that circuit; move the eero to a dedicated outlet if needed.
eero are designed to stay on 24/7 — never put them on a smart plug that 'turns off WiFi at night'.
