06
Wyze Security Camera
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Wyze Error Code 06 (sometimes shown as 'Connection failed (Error 06)') means the camera was reachable but its firmware encountered an error and stopped responding.
The fix path is: power cycle first, factory reset second, and manually reflash the firmware via SD card if those don't work.
Most Error 06 cases clear with a 30-second unplug; a few need the reflash.
Affected Models
- Wyze Cam v2 and v3
- Wyze Cam Pan v2 and v3
- Wyze Cam OG
- Wyze Cam Outdoor
Common Causes
- Firmware crashed during use — bug in firmware version
- Power flicker corrupted firmware mid-update
- SD card with bad sectors confusing the camera
- Out-of-date firmware that has known stability issues
- Hardware fault (rare — usually points to firmware first)
How to Fix It
-
Power cycle the camera.
Unplug from power for 30 seconds.
Plug back in.
Watch the LED.
If the camera comes back online and works normally, Error 06 was a transient firmware glitch and you're done.
If Error 06 returns within minutes, go to the next step. -
Remove the SD card and try again.
If your camera has an SD card inserted, eject it before testing.
Some Error 06 cases trace to the SD card — bad sectors, wrong format, or filesystem corruption.
If the camera works without the card, the card is the issue.
Format it as FAT32 or buy a known-good replacement (32 GB Class 10 is the sweet spot). -
Update firmware from the app.
In the Wyze app: tap the camera → Settings → Device Info → Firmware Version.
If an update is available, install it.
Wyze releases firmware fixes regularly; an Error 06 caused by a buggy version often clears with the next update. -
Factory reset the camera.
Hold the setup button on the back / bottom for 10 seconds until the LED blinks yellow rapidly.
Run setup again in the Wyze app.
This wipes settings and downloads a fresh firmware from Wyze servers — a clean state often clears Error 06 for good. -
Manually flash firmware via SD card.
If the camera won't even reach setup mode: download the firmware .bin from Wyze's Firmware page on their website.
Rename it to demo.bin (Cam v2) or demo_wcv3.bin (Cam v3).
Place on a FAT32 SD card root.
Power off the camera, insert the card, hold setup button while plugging in.
The LED goes solid blue for 3-5 minutes while it reflashes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my SD card recordings during a reset?
No — the SD card stores recordings independently of the camera's firmware.
A factory reset wipes the camera's settings (WiFi, account link, motion zones), not the card.
You can pop the card into a PC and read the videos directly even with the camera offline.
Cloud-only clips that haven't downloaded are a different story — those are tied to the device removal.
